The Green Dragon at Hardraw

The Green Dragon didn't disappoint. Absolutely amazing atmosphere with all the fires lit in every room. Amazing history and almost like a film set. Really busy at Sunday lunch but thats because the food is really good. We had a small apartment which seemed to be brand new. Huge comfy bed so had the best night sleep!

No food The hotel was advertised as having a restaurant. After a long day at work and travelling I arrived to be told the restaurant wasn’t open. I was told there were places I could drive to but after a long day didn’t really want to. I got myself showered and changed. When down in the bar other residents were there and the next thing pizza arrived for staff and residents. Quite annoying that nobody had let me know when they were aware I was wanting food. The next morning I went to make a coffee, the milk was sour!!! On a positive note it was lovely and so were the views.

We stayed here because of the connection with the show All Creatures great and small. We took several nice walks to the waterfall on site, and a trail to Hawes for lunch. The history, building offers wonderful unique charater and an appreciation for life in this part of England 1,000 years ago. We prepaid this property thru ******* and wish it were an option to pay onsite when we arrived, as our plans changed as they often do during travel to leave a day early avoiding a long day in the car traveling south. Unfortunately, no refund for that last night stay. We recommend the Green Dragon Inn. Cheers!

To have our first ever adventure out to Yorkshire be complimented even further by this place was a total blessing. The scent of an open fire and exemplary food hits us as soon as we open the front doors. I have ran many pubs myself, yet non compare to this. Heart, soul, kind people is just a few of the things that ads to the total tranquility that The Green Dragon offers. Forget the southern almost, forced, approach to hospitality. There is no fake “ hi’ guuuuys!” , no forced politeness all for some BS validation of some corporate noose that seems to be tied round the heart of the every day “customer service rep”. Just honest working, caring folks who will treat you with respect, kindness and compassion. Like most, your manners will be reciprocated if you show the same level of respect!! Within minutes of putting our bags down in the room, we found ourselfs heading down to the bar to be met with the Thursday night live music. This was as authentic as a feel good band gets. Open fires in all areas of the bar was complimented by our steak sharing platter. Of which we enjoyed SO much, we had it again the following night! All incredibly reasonable in price. The chefs, no joke, were nothing short of culinary wizards. They know what the did :D Our room was left nice and warm throughout all hours of the day. So if you or family are taking a nice long trek through the dales, we guarantee you’ll be stoked to find yourself back at the green dragon over anywhere else. They all catered to me and my partners somewhat overly kind nature. And that meant a lot. We have been totally blown away by our trip here. These places are falling by the waistline. So it’s important we support and love our public house roots like the green dragon. Also! THAT WATERFALL WAS AWESOME! Solo, partners or family, the green dragon shreds! ✌🏻
