Right beside the River Eden with some great walks starting from the door. The en-suite room was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. The bar was surprisingly quiet in the evening. Breakfast was excellent continental with lots of choice and plenty of choice.

What a great find! We wanted to break up our return journey home from Scotland. A lovely rural setting, beautifully remodelled room which are spotlessly clean. The staff are super friendly and the food was great. A warm welcome for our dog too. Would definitely recommend.

We had a family reunion and took over all the rooms. We had an amazing time. Great food, great staff, great accommodation. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The pub is set in beautiful countryside beside a beautiful river we walked along. Thank you. x

My husband and I have eaten here many times and have enjoyed every meal. When we heard about the New Year's Eve party we invited 4 of our friends from Scotland to join us and we all stayed over night. The party was excellent it was a karaoke and everyone joined in to make a brilliant atmosphere. The staff were excellent as always and very accommodating. We stayed in a beautiful bedroom which was beautifully decorated, warm and spotless. Breakfast next morning was ordered the night before and cooked to perfection. All in all a brilliant night in a fabulous friendly pub enjoyed by all 6 of us. Would not hesitate to stay or eat here again. Highly recommended.

Visited the Dukes Head for lunch on Christmas Day. Having seen good review for the food it was extremely disappointing be served a meal which I could not even describe as very ordinary. It was prepared and presented with very little imagination and not what you would expect on Christmas Day when we paid £89 for what should have been a special meal. The prawn cocktail had a very thin dressing and little to recommend it. The main course of turkey and all the trimmings was bland to say the least, while the mince pie served after the meal was straight from a packet. The fact that only half of the tables in the small restaurant room were occupied, perhaps reflects on the knowledge locals have.

This was a stay that exceeded my expectations. We had a one night stopover to break up a long drive and booked fairly last minute. The pub is in a beautiful little village, situated well on a quiet road with a garden to the back and a pretty road to the front. We were welcomed on arrival and given the key to our room upstairs. Room 1 was comfortable and looked over the front of the property to the road. It contained an exceptionally comfortable bed and also (important to me) a shower with good water pressure and plenty of hot water (I hate a disappointing shower!). Also tea and coffee facilities and a TV if needed. The food downstairs was good, breakfast was excellent. All staff were friendly and helpful. This is a strong recommend for a spot to break a journey (very good access to the M6 but far enough to be quiet at night) but also for a weekend away as it is a beautiful part of the world. The lakes are close too. I would definitely return should we be in the area again.

Wow! What a find. Lovely atmosphere, staff, food, rooms and facilities. Rooms spotless and everything we needed in there. Staff could not do enough to for us, all so lovely. Will defiantly be visiting again. Also dog friendly so will bring our pooch next time.

Really lovely place to stay. Very nicely furnished bedroom with lovely en suite. Super food and friendly, obliging staff. Dogs are made welcome and add to the ambience without being intrusive. We’ll definitely be back.
