Lovely interior, spacious room and friendly staff, but some loud noise with delivery in the morning

Room dirty. Dusty floors and skirting. The walls had been painted around the TV and headboard. Cracks in the ceiling which had been painted over. Stains on the throw on the bed possibly blood? Reported this via email and reception and have still not received a reply.

I’ve stayed at the Green Dragon Hotel around 7–8 times over the years, and it’s always been a pleasant experience. This time, I stayed for two weeks under very personal and emotional circumstances, as my grandmother was in the hospital. I cannot thank the reception staff enough for their kindness, understanding, and support during this difficult time. Every single member at the front desk was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They went out of their way to assist me in extending my stay multiple times and ensured I received the best possible rate. A special mention must go to Johanne — she was truly outstanding and made everything feel a little easier with her warmth and professionalism. The Green Dragon continues to be my go-to place in Hereford, and I’m deeply grateful to the entire team for their hospitality and compassion.

Excellent hotel - there's something charming about a traditional hotel staffed by a polite, knowledgeable, helpful team which gives it more personality. Too many modern, large chain hotels lack identity but the Green Dragon oozes a unique quality. Food was fantastic, the room was well equipped and all the staff were excellent.

£150 seems a lot for a midweek room here. No air con, dated decor. Staff were great but hotel rooms desperately need an upgrade!! Location is great, bar is good. Bathroom was clean but showing signs of wear and tear!! Bed was comfy at least. 3/5

Like others staying at the time (June, 2025), we were guests at a wedding. A friend had come across the world to attend and I booked two 'classic' single rooms, costing about £146 per night per person. It was to be a treat. I had checked the photos on the website and the description before booking. Alas, the glossy photos were very misleading. To say that the rooms were shabby chic would be generous. They were shabby with flaking paint on the walls, primitive locks on the doors - not reassuring at all for women staying on their own - and outdated bathrooms. Despite the obvious upgrading going on during our stay, the cost of the room, over £146 per night for a basic single, did not match the state of the accommodation or the geographical location. The staff in the restaurant and bar were very friendly and helpful, the food, good, basic pub grub with very (overly?) large servings. We'd missed the fire alarm going off the day before but on our final morning, at 6am, the fire alarm went off again. It was raining and quite cold and we were eventually herded across the road, under an arch in the car park. There were two, very frail, elderly guests among those evacuated. As it was 6 am, they, like many, were in night clothes. Despite someone coming to count heads, these two frail people were left to stand in the cold until another guest went and asked staff for chairs for them and another guest went to his car for a blanket. We were left outside for over an hour with absolutely no communication from hotel management. All for £146 per night. As we checked out, there were no apologies for the disruption. Hereford and Herefordshire were both great but the hotel was, in so many ways, shabby and definitely not worth the money.
