Champneys Henlow

I booked and paid for a superior room based on your offer, as I have stayed in this room before. However, I was given a shabby, small room, number 14. It seems rooms 14 and 15 are reserved for guests you no longer wish to see. The explanation from the friendly receptionist was that the hotel was fully booked, which was not true. She tried to make up for the situation with a practical gift from Champneys, but the claustrophobic room and the difficulty of accessing it with a large suitcase after a long journey were unpleasant. The hotel incorrectly judged me based on my attire, even though I intended to use their facial massage services, which were very professional, as were their massages and the products they use. Everything that was old seven years ago is now seven years older and even more worn out. Breakfasts are modest but healthy. They could use more fresh herbs, which they once grew in the spa gardens, now overgrown with weeds. Guests leave their plates and glasses on the lawn, and no one picks them up promptly. The spa lacks organization, except on weekends when older women step in to help, solving problems more quickly and efficiently. I am disappointed because it is not fair to deceive customers regarding room types. While the room lacked nothing and was regularly cleaned, it was next to a smelly toilet, and I was promised a superior room but given a standard one, as indicated on the temporary card received upon arrival. However, I must commend the lady who has diligently worked there for 30 years. It would be nice if she were friendly even when not promoting their services. If improvements are not made to the facilities and surroundings, there is no reason for me to return specially after the room switch and no difference in the price.

A wonderful place to spend time with family, has great walks, fantastic spa and pool.

Andrew on Reception and Debbie on the Fitness Reception were both absolutely incredibly helpful, humorous, friendly, professional and efficient...a credit to the team. Andrew took photos of us outside and also sorted out our shower and was jovial. Debbie as always, from many previous visits, was just full of smiles and advice and refunded a class that was cancelled. We've been visiting Henlow Grange over the course of 25 years now and although we love Henlow and are loyal we have seen some changes which have spoilt it somewhat. They are: We loved the speakers in the evening and looked forward to this, but this is no more very sadly and is a huge blow to us as there's nothing to do in the evening. The fitness classes used to be free with supps payable for a very few classes, but now we have to pay for all classes except aqua. The choice of food at breakfast is much more limited now. The toilet paper is so thin and like paper that we bring our own now! The name of the guest is not used and my guest is referred to as 'Guest of (my name)' which is rather impersonal and wouldn't cost anything to resurrect. Overall we are so loyal to Henlow and enjoy our stay and all the little hideaways, coffee bars, tennis court and loungers which brings us back 6 monthly.

Sunday evening at the pool. Outside whirlpool OK, but both poolside whirlpools not functioning, men's sauna too dark as the light doesn't work and no temperature indicator, men's steam room door still not fixed, long wait for a space in poolside sauna.

I’ve really been enjoying my time at Champneys Henlow as a new member – from the peaceful swimming and relaxation areas to the sauna, jacuzzis, and the Urban Gym, it’s a great space to unwind and recharge. I recently tried the Stretch & Relax class and loved it – I’ll definitely be going again. One of the highlights of my visits has been Debbie at the fitness reception desk. She’s always so helpful, positive, and genuinely warm – the kind of person who brightens your day. She’s a real asset to the team and deserves a special mention! While there are always small things that can be improved, the overall experience, staff, and atmosphere have made my Champneys journey so far a truly enjoyable one.
