The room was very dusty and dated, not in an antique kind of way just old. The bathroom had cracked tiles on the floor and the shower was mouldy. The toilet seat fell off when I sat on it.There was nowhere to hang towels or toilet paper but lots of fasteners on wall where they used to be. There was one easy chair in the room but was so marked and dirty we didn't want to sit on it. Thankfully the sheets were clean but we put rest is bedding on the floor. The carpet was dirty and had burn marks . I understand now why they have a 48 hour cancellation policy so you have to stay or lose your money. Awful

Very disappointing. In need of a deep clean, grubby and very dusty. Stayed in Grouse bedroom, old and mismatched furniture, stained carpet and tired bathroom. Toilet seat not secured to toilet base and shower cubicle covered in black mould. We were awoken at 2.00am with rain coming through ceiling and soaking pillow. Speaking to staff the following morning it was apparent that none of our complaints were unknown and were met with disinterest.

Staff were friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble! My son said they were the best pancakes ever Rooms were clean and tidy, rustic and full of charm . Staff gave us top tips where to visits while we was here! Pub regular’s were full of North Eastern charm!

Really looking forward to our lunch today, Mothers Day , which was booked on Tuesday by my Son only to be told there was no record of the booking ! The only choice available was the ' snug ' a narrow space near the front door, so rather than have no food we sat there. Lovely Mothers Day sitting in a line facing a wall about 3 feet away! Cold draught every time the door opened and people standing next to the table while waiting to be seated ! Although the girls were pleasant enough wasn't really what we were expecting and the food when it came was nothing special. When I went to pay I said how unhappy we were, wasn't even an offer of free sweet or something, not that I was looking for that but the offer would have been nice for the inconvenience . Certainly won't be going back or reccomending it to anyone! Thanks Knitsley for spoiling our Mother's Day lunch.

This is a hidden gem of a pub. The place is interesting and the staff are lovely and friendly, rooms are different but that's what adds character and charm. The food was excellent - only downside is no internet in rooms and phone signal not good.

Stayed here Thursday 9th November. We were met by a lovely lady (Pauline) and showed to our very quaint and cosy room. Loved the feel of the room it was so cute but very functional too. Great bathroom with plenty of space. Lots of character. We had a couple of drinks in the bar which had a roaring log fire and we almost fell asleep on the very comfortable sofa! After a proper nap we had dinner which was also very very nice. Vegetable soup for me and garlic mushrooms on toast for husband. Followed by steak for me and duck for husband. We did not leave much! A very very comfortable brass bed almost made us miss breakfast as we slept through until 8.30 and breakfast was booked at 9! Breakfast again was a straightforward full english with very good quality items, very nice bacon and sausage. Choice of toast and a good coffee. Thank you Pauline and everyone for a very relaxing 24 hours in charming surroundings.
