Anchor Hotel avoid at all costs, you have be warned! Terrible owners and staff, customer service was the worst ive ever had, Im not kidding, please avoid, it will spoil your trip. Lots of other places to stay, this is the cheapest, Ive learnt my lesson,

My wife and I stayed at the hotel 20-21st September 2024. We were extremely disappointed with the hotel. It looked as though some DIY amateur had made some attempts in various areas. There was a terrible musty smell in the bedroom which meant that we had to leave the bedroom door open. The old fashioned single glazed window was stuck in place because of over painting. Generally in need of massive investment to get up to standard. Definitely over priced and over rated. One star at best. A pity really as it is situated in a lovely area, and the ladies at breakfast were very friendly.

At midday the staff were uncertain as to whether lunch could be served - it couldn't. So we returned for dinner but had to wait for well over an hour just for chilli con carne. The meal was good but the wait was appalling and the wine in the bar was beyond average. There are other places in town to go to - the staff seem a bit confused.

Really enjoyed my stay. Beautiful day sat outside by the river in the sunshine. Rooms were ok. Bed comfy. Breakfast nice. The American diner van onsite had a great selection of gorgeous food. Bar had a good choice of drinks aswell as pool, darts and skysports . Then there's the little snug/cocktail bar room with loads of retro games to be enjoyed. Lovely owners too 🙂

Very disappointed. Restaurant closed at 5pm. All the food that was available in the evenings was burgers or hot dogs from a van in the car park. We were shown 1 room but then offered another, more spacious but ended up with 2 mattresses on top of one another and only hand towels.Cooked breakfast was good, otherwise liking taking a step back to 1960’s.

Thought since we live in the village and it was a lovely evening we’d try the American food van. ‘Parky on the Bridge’ at The Anchor. Been open every time I’d passed this week and smelled good. No opening times to be found either on the van, website or FB. So I rang, no answer, so I left a message asking if they were serving tonight. I was phoned back, by a man who did not identify himself, I asked if they were opening the van tonight and he said they’d be serving at 6. We walked along and had a couple of drinks. I was reassured by the very nice lady serving at the bar that food would be available at 6. Shutters duly opened at 6, I gave it 5mins then went to place our order. I was ignored while he bustled about then he said “back in a minute” and left. I was left standing like a lemon. Went and sat down at our table. Still not back by 6.25 so we left and went to the chippy. Won’t be back to be subjected to this shambolic service.

Stopped hear yesterday on a bus trip out 7 of us went I and asked if they were serving food we were told yes took drinks order & came to the table & took food order 3 different dishes choosen by the 7 of us so seemed easy after waiting 1 hours we asked how long the food was going to be and were told 5 mins so we waited 10 mins passed still nothing asked again told 5 mins again still nothing couldn't and wouldn't wait any longer 1hr and 15mins abd no food ridiculous

Lovely place and fantastic staff been on my own very enjoyable trip good bar and selection of beers. Will definitely come back very close to bus stops and train station beautiful old church as well. Very good spot for travellers to see Hadrian Wall and town of Cordbridge
