Red Lion Inn

We called into this lovely pub for a cold drink and food, This is a quaint old pub full of character and charm, they had a lunchtime special on of a sandwich and soup for £10 the food and soup were very tasty. Hawkshead town is very small but full of character and charm which i recommend.

This is one of the best pub meals we have had in a long time. We both chose the lamb rump. It was beautifully cooked. The stuffed padron peppers were really tasty. Not normally a fan of pomegranate additions but these were delicious with the sauce. The potatoes were well presented and so complimented the dish. We decided to add seasonal vegetables to our dinner. Would recommend the seasonal vegetables to add to this dish. One between two people is adequate. Can’t wait to return to try the pork and red snapper that were our other possible choices.

The inn's rooms are quirky and characterful, fitting the age of the building: wonky floors and walls, nothing square. Facilities were a bit variable: the heating wasn't working but the staff were able to provide an electric heater to overcome that. The shower was either hot or cold, nothing in the middle. Hot was ok, with plenty of flow, so it worked. The food in the restaurant was excellent, good menu, really tasty. Location is great. There is only a small car park on site, but we got lucky.

Short but sweet This was a last minute trip and honestly it was just a lovely one. We weren’t there long but the bed was comfy, the room was clean and the staff were friendly. Can’t complain.

A stunning and charming 15th century stay Came to stay to visit the area for work. The hotel was my base. The staff were so attentive as soon as I walked through the door of the historic coaching pub. It’s was busy and bustling and I was concerned that it would be noisy in my room but as I was shown to my room tucked away along the winding corridor I was happily wrong. The rooms are the other end to the pub so didn’t hear a thing! The breakfasts are simple but thoughtful and they are happy to cater to everyone’s tastes. The room was clean, quiet and snuggly. I would highly recommend a stay here and would love to go back. The little village of hawkshead is like stepping back in time. It’s beautiful!

Love the e Red Lion Our first stay at the Red Lion. Rooms really clean and comfortable. Food to the usual high standards from Alex and the team. Looking forward to going back again!!
