Beautiful hotel with stunning views or the river. Internal areas are lovely and have a mix of rustic and modern. Spa pool was great, sauna steamroom and whirlpool. Room's are a little dated and the windows really need an external clean, but the hotel itself is charming and the staff are welcoming and very helpful. We had a balcony which was a huge bonus, it was lovely to hear the water from the river and the odd steam train passing by. The food didn't dissapoint, we had an excellent 3 course evening meal, the lamb in particular was delicious and tender, and a full range of tasty breakfast items in the morning. We have just returned from a one night stay here, I think most if not all of the negative reviews must relate to somewhere else. We booked a DB&B package which came with a cream tea on arrival which was excellent quality, a very fresh light scone with really good clotted cream and preserve. I had tea and my wife had coffee, both excellent. Over the course of our stay we interacted with several members of staff all of whom were friendly, helpful and efficient. The service was first rate throughout. The food in the restaurant was of a very high standard much better than most similarly rated hotels and we enjoyed it immensely. Our room was very much to our liking, large room with king size bed, large TV which we didn’t really use as we preferred looking out at the river and listening for the occasional passing of the steam train. Two comfortable chairs ( lots of hotels only supply one which is no good in a room for two people ) A further chair useful if you wish to use a laptop whilst sitting upright. Kettle, fridge, trouser press, hairdryer possibly forgot some things there. Good bathroom with bath and shower and plenty large enough. We didn’t use the pool or gym on this occasion but we will another time. The hotel location suits us fine, motor museum 5 minutes walk away, we passed what we think was escape rooms even closer. The hotel website lists other things close by but the whole Lake District is within easy reach by car so there is enough choice of places to go to satisfy almost everyone. A fantastic stay and it won’t be the last. Just booked a further two nights here in September. Looking forward to it greatly.
