Sleep Inn & Suites Hattiesburg North

My husband and I have stayed at this property for the past 4 years or so every spring in order to attend to business meetings. Coming back this year I was reminded that we need to start looking for another place. The hotel was reasonably clean but the hall carpets are thread bare worn and our mattress was in desperate need of replacement. It was close to the worst and least comfortable. The super comfortable beds and pillows at a more economical rate than pleasure trip stays was why we have looked for the Sleep properties in the years since. But this was was miserably hard and uncomfortable. Everything else was average for a business stay. And if they want to continue with repeat customers who give great reviews, they will HAVE to upgrade and make improvements. The staff was not unfriendly, but training new employees and had absolutely no welcoming personality the evening we checked in. The next day was pretty much the same at the desk. Food was average. There were no bagels, though, but the juice machine and coffee were as expected. The scrambled eggs were good and we even had a choice of two meats, sausage links and bacon. Selections were ok, but nothing special. Seems like the expected these days. We don't mind cutting back with amenities when on these trips because our time will not be spent in the rooms, but we do want a comfortable sleep and clean rooms and visually appealing hallways and decor. Nothing fancy but clean and nice. We got the clean. Nice, not so much. The commode flush had a few difficulties. The inside of the tub was VERY well worn and looked like someone had painted it and the pain was wearing off. There was also a HUGE hole in the wall where the door had come back and slammed against it. The hole was stuffed with some insulation. That worked, but again, not nice. We stayed in a king suite in room 201. It was quiet and away from any outside or elevator noise. This is across from the convention center but if you have any venues there, I would suggest traveling around the interstate and stay in the newer properties near Hardy Street. This area is still okay but over the last few years you can visibly see its decline. Sorry, I usually enjoy giving better reviews. We will take the extra minutes and few extra dollars and go to a different hotel next time.
