I spent two nights at the Alpha Hotel. Having lived in Hamburg for several years, I chose it for its location and value for money. Location: it is ideally located. From the central station, which is an 8-minute walk away, you can explore all of Hamburg and its surroundings. You can also go shopping on Möckebergstrasse, especially during the sales period. Fancy a walk or a run? The Alster (the lake in the centre of Hamburg) is right next door. Want to have a drink, dine or go out until very late? Lange Reihe, a lively and somewhat 'bobo' street, is right next door. The hotel is more than adequate for a few nights. My room was a bit spartan but met my expectations: quiet, clean, with a private shower and toilet, flat screen TV with a few international channels, plus a complimentary bottle of water. The mattress is foam but I slept well. Being certainly in low season, I paid less than 50 euros per night, which is still a very competitive price. Be careful though: the reception is not open all the time, even during the day. I think it is important to communicate/update your arrival time so as not to find the door closed. Similarly, if you want to leave your suitcase after check-out in order to pick it up a little later, this is not necessarily possible, even to pick it up during the day. The alternative is to leave your suitcase at the central station (Gepäckservice, near the entrance to the hotel, next to Sixt and Europcar) but it will cost you 5 euros and the opening hours are also limited.
