2nd To none this really should be awarded 5 stars as everything from booking in to checking out was awesome -and each and every single person who works there demonstrates TOTAL Customer Service that is so rare nowadays-and to top it off the new spa, pool sauna and hot tubs really are the best I’ve ever experienced even better than Ragdale & Stapleford .well done Barnsdale Hotel 100% Total Quality

Lovely place very impressed with the friendly staff lovely décor and the whole place in general, only popped in for a couple of glasses of wine and to book a Sunday lunch for the family, Must admit it would have been cheaper to buy a bottle as the service charge would only have been half as much £3 instead of £6 for carrying it ten foot to our table, but it wasn't really an issue, until i came to pay ummmm don't except cash, Oh dear please tell me how you pay if you only carry cash on you as a lot of people i know do ? i felt a little discriminated and was made to feel silly with other visitors looking on, luckily i did have a card on me that i didn't want to use for various reasons but obviously had to because i couldn't leave without paying So the morel is i didn't book the lunch and will not go back as my cash is not good enough shame really because it is a lovely place

Tough to rate as most of the food was what we would have rated as good but nothin to shout out about. Then out of the Blue a couple of dishes excel. The treacle salmon appetizer is a thing of beauty. The treacle tart with ice cream was also a standout winner. In fact ice cream seems to be something they do very well. Service was efficient and staff very pleasant. All the other dishes were decent but nothing to get excited about. Would go back if only for the salmon appetizer.

We attended Barnsdale's Xmas Market today, which looked to be a fantastic event with 90 stall holders present. Sadly, the lighting in the main hall was SO poor it was impossible to see the goodies on offer. Visitors and stall holders were all complaining and frustrated. Such a shame, as I imagine many of the stall holders lost sales as prospective customers could not see their wares. The stall holders in the marquee had a better deal as the lighting was good. Sadly, this meant half of the stall holders and their Xmas goodies were not accessible to the public. Also, the bar in the main hall was unattended for a good 15 minutes, so we could not order our drinks. Not the standard we're used to from Barnsdale, sadly.

A lovely country retreat and well appointed room. The little extras included an arrival drink, tray of goodies when you got to the room and Hand written welcome note. Staff friendly and welcoming and the use of the Spa facilities was an added bonus for our weekend away. With added dry robes to keep you cosy. Beautiful area inside a log cabin to relax in. The ladies here were so friendly and naturally attentive.

Our stay at The Barnsdale was lovely but a few things did disappoint. We stayed in a Heritage room which was clean and nicely furnished overlooking the courtyard.Unfortunately as this was a birthday treat booked by my daughter back in December 2023 I didn’t do my research as I didn’t realise they had a spa which had recently been opened. Due to working abroad, I tried to extend my voucher stay to a later date but unfortunately they said I could not extend. The bar area was clean and the selection of drinks was good. My overnight stay included dinner and breakfast. When I enquired about the dinner meal I was told we both had a credit of £45. The food was delicious, however I was surprised that even though we were under the allowed credit of £45 we still had to pay extra for our drinks ( I think they could of used up the rest of our credit then tell me how much the bar bill was. Breakfast was very good, albeit a bit sparse one egg, one sausage, one piece of bacon. The biggest disappointment in my opinion is the discretionary charge of 12.5% for serving dinner AND Breakfast. I know it’s discretionary but personally I don’t think this should be applied. The whole experience is not cheap but is worth the money. For this reason I will only rate the stay a 4 out of 5.

Having driven past this venue on many occasions, yesterday my wife & I popped in to have nose around & grab a drink or two. The reception area is inviting & opens up into several seating/eating & drinks areas, all of which are close to a long well stocked bar. After receiving our drinks we went to sit in an area just behind the bar & were surprised to see that all the tables had empty glasses on them and general rubbish on the floor. We moved some glasses & put ours down and enjoyed our drink. We stayed for 2 drinks & were there for just over an hour & in all that time not one table was cleared, even though several staff came in to give people their meals. The rubbish on the floor by the tables was also not touched. Even though the drinks were lovely & the staff friendly, the general standard of the bar area, left much to be desired

We have just returned from a weekend at this hotel and I think that it is important to start with the positives: POSITIVES Food was excellent but see below. Spa facilities were excellent and included in the price. The hot tubs were great with a wonderful aroma of smoke. Pool was heated to a lovely temperature and sauna has a great view. Very clean room and comfortable bed. Very good location. NEGATIVES Throughout the weekend much of the car park was closed due to some car test drive function. People staying at the hotel should have priority as it took ages to find a parking space. Room was extremely dark. Brighter lights needed. Service at breakfast on Sunday morning was appalling and the front desk admitted that they had never had so many complaints. There were probably about sixty people having breakfast but only three staff, who tried their best but it simply was not enough. When we arrived there was no orange juice, bowls, butter or yogurt and it took about 15 minutes for this to be resolved. Some friends had been waiting an hour for their cooked breakfast and so we didn't bother and got a discount instead. At both the meals and at breakfast coffee and tea were served but we had to ask for milk. At the meal on Saturday evening I asked for an extra roll for my pate and the initial reaction was that the chef had only done enough for one roll per person. The doors to each of the men's and women's changing rooms in the spa open directly onto the locker area where people are changing into swimming costumes.

We booked a last minute night away at the Barnsdale hotel. First impressions were ok, we were met with a pleasant welcome. On entering our room it had a strange smell and felt damp. We turned the heating up to warm through the room. The smell never really went away. We couldn’t work out if it was a doggy smell or urine. Nonetheless we thought as we were only staying one night and a rather large party who checked in before us had already been changing rooms around, we wouldn’t make a fuss. We had booked dinner for 7pm and had a drink at the bar first. When we sat in the restaurant waited over 30 mins until we were asked to take our drinks and food order. Service was slow and our mains didn’t arrive until 8.25. The food was ok, but being honest the expectation of the A’la carte menu didn’t deliver with my meal being very disappointing a lot of onion and tiny amount of goats cheese. Breakfast today again service slow. We both had the full breakfast and asked for poached eggs. When they arrived the eggs were so overcooked they looked like hard boiled eggs. I left my egg and of if I had tried to complain there was no staff to ask. It was a real shame after reading about the hotel we hoped it would be lovely. We both felt that it is trying very hard to be excellent but it falls short because it was understaffed, no quality control on the food and the room odour. It’s a shame the quality of the breakfast wasn’t as high a standard as the Polestar event in the barn. Such a shame really.
