We arrived in the evening from Tam Coc. One good thing about the regular buses in Cat Ba is that almost all of them will drop you off and pick you up at the door of your hotel (if it is central). The hotel is like most in the city: it is the width of a room and does not shine with any luxury. Ours "Palace" only had the label although there were older ones. At the entrance, the elevator smelled incredibly damp and the room they gave us (3 beds, no balcony, smell of rays...) did not correspond to the theoretically luxurious "Bridal Suite" reserved. They moved us to the main façade and, although it was the same as the one in the photos, thank goodness it couldn't have been the scene of a honeymoon... because it was quite worn out and not at all attractive (at least it didn't smell musty). ). It wasn't small, but it wasn't big either. It had a balcony overlooking the street (with a railing so low that it invited people not to go out, under penalty of suicide for the theoretical bride and groom) and more or less good views since it was a high floor. Large bed, with a hard mattress and acceptable sheets. Worn furniture, a.a. and satellite TV. Minibar with complimentary water. Small, old bathroom with a curious sink whose countertop had been cut just enough to be able to sit (sideways) on the toilet without suffering major damage. Shower also old with a window to an alley, weak in pressure and with towels to change. We didn't get to have breakfast on either day, because the room was tiny, unattractive and the buffet was sparse and poorly presented (we bought some shakes and some cookies). Wifi good. We understand that it is a highly touristic place with a lot of demand and this is evident in the poor quality of the hotels. Despite the positive comments (?), we would surely look for another hotel.
