The facilities are a bit old and there is no elevator. But the service is good, the breakfast is delicious and the surrounding environment is good.

This has to be the worst hotel we have ever stayed in ,the place is run like a mixture of faulty towers and a care home, the manager is rude and has rules and regulations coming out of his ears,we were there two nights as part of a wedding party who between us spent a fortune in this dump, not allowed to bring food in,not allowed to eat food outside on premises land not allowed to talk outside after 11pm doors locked at 10pm and are given a key code to get in,on arrival back at hotel after brothers wedding at 1 am manager standing outside waiting for our return to immediately tell us to get to our beds, have never experienced anything like this anywhere else you could not write this our party were a mixture of ages from married couples to elderly family members one of which asked for an extra tea bag for a cup of tea in room to have with medication only to be rudely told no your not getting one go to your bed, the level of service in this place is truly shocking and I could go on and on with more tales of woe, hotel is very run down and not worth the money they are charging,do yourself a favour and book elsewhere for a much better service and experience

The hotel although rustic is in a fabulous little town with great history. The staff and management could bot do enough for us. The word 'NO' doesn't exist in their vocabulary. They tried and succeeded all our request to the best of their abilities.

The exterior of the hotel, is not what you might expect from photos on the website. It needs some attention. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the car park a reasonable size. There's a small garden out the front. The room was a reasonable size and the bed comfortable but the bathroom was pokey. When we arrived there was a rock concert going on somewhere nearby which was very noisy, but fortunately finished in the early evening, but the noise of other guest was then loud. The food was OK. I had a very flavourful steak and ale pie but it was way too salty. the veg however were a perfect al dente.

Good points - the staff (of whom there are very few) were very friendly and helpful - allowed us to check in over 2 hours early which greatly helped with our plans for the day. Very close to the centre of Haddington but the location feels almost rural. On the minus side - bedrooms involve a steep flight of stairs and many of them have almost no view. Sound insulation is poor - the sound of other guests running a bath is enough to wake you up and the extractor fan in the bathroom drowns out everything. Breakfast offered porrige, pre-packed cereals, toast or the "full Scottish"; this offered about 8 or 9 different items but the portions of each were tiny so most people would probably manage the whole lot. Part of the hotel was undergoing renovations when we were there and hopefully the rest of the building will get the same - the staff do a great job but the building lets them down. The web site might make you think this is a very high class country house hotel. It's not (and to be fair it's not priced as one). For a short stay to explore East Lothian, or for a stop on a longer journey, it's much better value than hotels in Edinburgh.

I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and attention they gave me, my husband and our friends. The hotel was valued for money and the food was very good. I would return back to this hotel.
