My biggest mistake of this trip to Yamagata is to book this hotel. It's a good hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. You will want to stay around the city of Yamagata province which is also called Yamagata city just so you can get to famous tourist spots. However this is 4 hours away from all of these. I had to book another hotel so I can stay 1 day in the city when I wanted to visit these places and the traveling time just completely made me exhausted. It took like 1 day to go to a place and 1 day to go back. It was so terrible, I was crying. This place is closed to Shonai airport not Yamagata airport so I also had to book another flight from Shonai. I wasted so much money for transportation. It was such a terrible experience.
However the hotel is incredibly beautiful with smart design in everything. I loved the onsen very much. If it was just a vacation/restcation for relaxing purpose or isolate yourself from the human word, it's the best choice for you. Since its in the middle of the endless rice field, there is nothing to eat except for paying very high price to eat at the hotel's restaurant. And the food was just okay.
The beauty of this hotel was like a trap. Its like I was blind from its beauty and couldn't see all other disavantages.

I stayed here on a tour of the Shonai region. It was a cheap tour, so I didn't have high expectations, but I was surprised by this inn. The approach from the gate at the entrance is decorated with the ”Pine Festival Pull Rope” of Mt. Haguro. The interior of the spacious lobby is also wonderful, and there is a welcome drink counter. There is a shop in front of the front desk, but it is not a typical souvenir shop, but a select shop that also sells traditional crafts from around Yamagata. At the back of the first floor, there is a storehouse-like store where you can drink local sake. The guest room, which can be reached by elevator, is quite spacious with tatami flooring and two large beds. Behind that is a wooden floor with a sofa. The floor is heated, so it is comfortable to lie down. The large window overlooks the Sea of Japan. The meal was a kaiseki meal as part of the tour, but the delicious food made with locally produced ingredients, which showed the chef's good taste, was served in abundance. Breakfast was the same as the other guests in another large hall, but it was an elaborate set meal like a Shokado bento. It was delicious food that looked good on social media. The hot spring was also wonderful, and the large communal bath had a large tub, a cypress bath, and an open-air bath. The next morning, when I went to the beach, I could see Mt. Chokai to the north. The hotel staff were also very considerate, and at dinner time they prepared ice for the remaining bottles of shochu so that we could drink it in our room. It felt like I had stayed at a good inn for the first time in a while.
GGuest UserThe room was very beautiful because it was renovated. I wanted to enter the hot spring and sauna, so I took the annex side that I could go directly. Only the bath area seemed to be not lanobei, but it was not dirty and I was able to relax. Tsuruoka is not a good person to access the airport, if you don't have a car, you need to go by bus, so you can get off and off the bus from next to this hotel. There is also a station immediately on foot, and there are many bicycles rental and car rental nearby. This is an unrepentant choice
LLinda ChenThe hotel has unparalleled sunset views, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the meals are delicious!
The service staff are very kind and make you feel like you are at home. I would like to stay again if I have the chance.
GGuest UserOverall, I think it's good value for money. Hot springs and public baths are lukewarm. I'm a little happy that there is a bag at the entrance of the bath where you can put wet towels etc. The bath in the room was free-flowing from the source, and it was so hot that it turned red in a second when I entered with the water dripping from the beginning. It felt good after adjusting it with hot water. It would be nice if there was confirmation of allergies and wasabi at the time of meal and check-in. For dinner, sashimi is served at a hot spring. I would have been happier if I had white rice or breakfast rice cooked for dinner. Breakfast is normal. I ate two clams in my clam miso soup and both were crispy and sad from the morning. The family who went with me was also jerking. It's difficult to choose between Japanese and Western, but it would be nice if it was a breakfast buffet or a light seafood bowl for breakfast instead of sushi for dinner. The building and cleaning are solid, and the structure is gorgeous. I wonder if the elevator can't be helped, but I'm worried about the sound of the door. I've been impressed by how well-maintained an older Japanese-made elevator can keep it, so I'd be happy if I could consult with the manufacturer and improve it. Room and cleanliness. Amenities are also taken care of. It's a pity that there is a bath towel for each person in the room, even though there is a hot spring bath. I'm happy to have two, one for the room and one for the large bath. It would be nice if there were less razors and combs in the public bath and a bath towel or milk or ice cream after the bath. The futon is a little firm. If you have one more futon, you're in a luxury inn. I wrote a harsh review because I thought it was delicious and wasteful, but overall this service at this price was very good.
Cchibit-chInter type route inn again. I stayed at the route inn and I didn't write it, but the usual route in facilities. Because it is an intertype, it is far from the center, but if you walk a little, there is a roadside type restaurant. Be careful if you are planning to drink because you walk accordingly. Convenience stores are a little far away. I wonder if breakfast was not very regional. I don't know the regional nature of Yamagata in the first place. But beans? Imobo? Yonezawa beef and cherry blossoms can't be served at the breakfast of Vijiho. However, the number of items was large and the taste was not bad.
The food was devised in various ways, and there was something like table service, so I was able to enjoy it deliciously. Although the hotel is old, I didn't get the impression that it was very clean. The bath is not good enough, and the amenities and towels provided in the room are like those of a business hotel. I got the impression that it was just like an old group banquet trip. Also, there is a hotel that has closed down in the neighborhood, but it was not good enough to have something that is crumbling.
