I absolutely loved the glacier Bay Lodge. It had an old-school feel to it, like you were going to camp, staying in cabins, and I thought it was so great! Everything was comfortable, the staff was great, and the food delicious. 10 out of 10, would be happy to return.

I stayed at this historic lodge with my three young adult children for a week in June. The setting was stunningly beautiful, surrounded by a temperate rainforest of Sitka spruce and alder, with Bartlett Cove opening to the west. Our room’s view was of the forest, and we loved it. The rooms are fairly basic but sufficient and clean: two comfortable beds, table and chairs, coffee maker, bathroom with tub/shower. This isn’t the kind of place where folks spend a lot of time in the rooms. Several beautiful hikes start right outside the lodge doors, plus kayaking (see my review of Glacier Bay Sea Kayaks), and boat tours (see my review of Glacier Bay Tours). The rooms are separated from the main lodge, but easily accessible along boardwalks that give the whole place a treehouse feel. The main lodge is the only place you’ll find WiFi, other than the NPS visitor’s center a short walk away. If you must get online, it’s possible, and you’ll be in a comfortable place to do it. Large stone fireplace, squashy leather couches and armchairs, large windows looking out over the cove. There’s also a deck and the WiFi reaches there fairly well. I spent several mornings working remotely from the lodge seating area or out on the deck, before heading out on hikes or kayaks for the day. The lodge also houses the dining room, which is the only place to eat during your stay, unless you take a taxi ($$$), hitch, or hike the 9 miles to Gustavus. And it’s good food! A little pricey, but good quality and tasty. To make our budget stretch, since we stayed for a week, we packed a collapsible electric kettle and ate some meals in our room: instant oatmeal, cocoa, dried fruit and nuts, ramen and dehydrated veggies and shelf-stable chicken packets, etc. Friendly staff all around—both the lodge employees and the NPS folks who are around. They seem to work collaboratively in many ways. Someone from the lodge meets every flight, so you’ll have shuttle service to and from your flight. Overall, we loved our stay and would do it again. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely 4 night stay during the first week of June 2025. The staff were helpful, very friendly and fun. Highlights were a National Park Ranger led walk through the forest, renting and self kyaking on the bay, and the trip on the small ship up to the glaciers. Our Captian "Namoie" and National Park Ranger (on board) were professional and Awesome! Our room had a view of the beautiful bay. Many thanks to all! We had a most enjoyable stay and would Return. This was our second stay in one of the National Park Lodges and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed the atmosphere in the lodge, and seeing sea otters from our room as well as tremendous sunsets really exceeded our expectations. The employees were so dedicated, and Andy at the front desk helped me recover some shirts I had left in the room. It was some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. Thank you Glacier Bay Lodge!

Staff, led by Dimitri, go well beyond expectations to be provide friendly and hospitality can-do service. Rooms are clean and food experience is solid. Andy at front desk is exceptional. Of course the place and boat trip to glacier is world-class.

Glacier Bay Lodge was a wonderful stay in a beautiful part of the world! It had everything we needed- rustic charm, friendly people, comfy beds, a restaurant and excellent customer service! They provided shuttle service from and to the airport and ferry and to other places as needed. They also provided several tour options- the Glacier Bay boat tour was excellent! Drawbacks for some people would be no refrigerator in the rooms and no tv in the rooms or main lodge area. However, there are ice buckets in the rooms that restaurant staff will fill up as needed.

2 nights at Glacier Bay It’s a National Park Lodge so it’s basic, as you would expect. It was clean, comfortable and in a location that is remarkable. We stayed here for two nights. After the first night staff came by and asked if we needed anything. How often does that happen in a “high end” hotel?

Beautiful Place to visit Lovely location. Amenities and services are very limited here as it is in the middle of Glavier Bay National Park. Food selection is minimal and expensive, limited hours. No TV in lodge or room and wifi in lodge only.
