While my wife and I weren’t entirely clear on what we were looking for, Konsenda San Blas turned out to be it. A small room with a tiny balcony including a hammock, a bathroom with a clean working flush toilet and shower. All with a stunning view of a broad jungle valley and a variety of birds, near and far, including noisy parrots from time to time. That is, just what we needed and nothing more. The rooms are quaintly built using roughly hewn timber. The proprietors are friendly and accommodating, there isn’t a lot of English spoken but with today’s apps, that isn’t a problem even if you can’t speak Spanish. You can get a little internet via a phone service, your own or borrowed. We didn’t need or want much of that anyway. There are jungle trails leading from the premises. For a small fee, a guide takes you where you choose. Once you know your way around a bit, you can go on your own, like we did to the waterfall and pool for a cool refreshing dip. There were literally no biting bugs when we went in March of 2024. We saw few bugs at all but I can’t say none. We saw, briefly in our room, the largest, by many times, cricket I have ever seen. That was a positive for me and a negative for my wife but not a problem by any means. A day trip from Konsenda to San Blas is easy and can be arranged for you by the proprietors. We are happy that we went to some of the San Blas Islands for a day but we are so glad we stayed at Konsenda, instead of on San Blas islands. We stayed for 3 nights. The only negative was that one can hear the traffic on the road to San Blas, as the property is not so far from that road. Since there isn’t much traffic on that road except for the morning and evening caravans between Panama City and San Blas, this wasn’t a big deal for us. The food was simple and well prepared, again just what we needed and not more. If I get the chance, I will return to Konsenda again.
