Château Saint Gilles

My wife and I feel we need some superlatives to describe this place. We booked in for 3 nights, en route to the ferry at Ouistreham, after visiting family in Brittany. We wanted to see the nearby Bayeux tapestry (and did - amazing) and also have a few days of rest and relaxation. On approach, the building is impressive, handsome, set in extensive gardens, of blossom and mature trees. We received a warm welcome, and our luggage was portered to our rooms. Our suite was wonderful, tastefully furnished rooms of good proportions, with large comfortable bed. In fact, a bedroom, a sitting room, an internal hallway, bathroom and separate toilet, all with air con. The grounds comprised several acres, a mix of lawns, flower beds, woodland and greenhouse. There is an area with wooden equipment for keep-fit enthusiasts. The outdoor pool proved to be beautifully warm, and there is a sauna, jacuzzi, and similar. The staff were faultless - professional, engaging but not intrusive, and friendly. The restaurant menu covered beef, fish, chicken and vegetarian, and there were salads, burgers, etc. If staying more than 3 or 4 nights, or if one has dislike of various dishes, this menu might be somewhat limiting. But the food was excellent. Tasty. Building work to extend the restaurant area and accommodation (I believe) was not too intrusive, and almost complete. This chateau is a quality establishment. My wife and I would like to return again, for a night or two, or if the menu was more extensive, or changed from night to night, for longer. We wholeheartedly recommend Chateau Saint-Gilles.

The chateau has been beautifully remodeled and is impeccable. The breakfast was very good and served buffet style. The dinner choices were excellent. It was a wonderful experience!

Our stay here was perfect. Our room was gorgeous, we had dinner one night in the restaurant which was delicious and there is a great buffet breakfast with everything you could want. Our room overlooked the beatiful garden when we watched red squirrels. The hotel is just outside Bayeux and they organised taxis for us so that we could go into town one evening and all have a drink. What could have made it better? I would have liked an early morning swim but the pool didn’t open until 10 and we were out for the day by then.

From the moment we arrived we were stunned by the beauty of the Chateau and attention to detail the owners have taken to restore and maintain. The entire staff was incredibly kind (esp Margot and Chloe) and the food was remarkable. We ate at the restaurant both nights of our stay and the second night was a BBQ that was fabulous! Do not hesitate to book Hotel Chateau Saint Gilles - we can't wait to visit again!

It feels so nice to wake up to such a tranquil setting. The whole place is fabulous for relaxation. Staff are super friendly. Breakfast are full of local produce. We had a fabulous stay.

Very out of the way place yet close by car to Bayuex. Will be a very nice place once construction 🚧 is over. Got assigned a room on the wing with direct outside access. Would have been very close to the nice pool if construction fencing wasn’t blocking the easy way. Had to walk around the entire property and over dirt piles to get to pool. Annoying. Room was new yet sterile. Open shower with no glass door makes for a cool ending seeing heater is only in bedroom. Heard guests above us walking on floor. For new construction should be better. Emailed for a massage a week prior & verbally mentioned wanting one at 5:30 the next day. Didn’t happen. Staff seemed needing more instruction. Dinner in restaurant was lovely. Chef is excellent. Great pate.
