Lovely, quaint motel. Clean, nicely decorated and comfy. Owner had to leave before we arrived so she messaged us and let us know that she wouldn't be there on our arrival and that she left key in our room. Appreciated that she took the time to do this, especially after a long day on the road.

I was looking forward to a nice stay and a good night's sleep after a long day's work in Cape Breton. After a Google Maps search, McNeils seemed like a decent choice. I called and booked a room for two nights, with no mention of any office closure times or check-in instructions. After finishing work, I drove half an hour outside the city to McNeils, arriving at 11:00 pm. Despite the office being lit up, there was no response to my doorbell rings or knocks. I called the number provided, but Jim, who took my booking, ignored my calls and didn't answer the door. He knew I was on my way but left me stranded late on a holiday weekend with no place to stay, forcing me to scramble for accommodations. Fortunately, another hotel found me a room, but it was almost an hour away. The next day, I received a nasty voicemail from Jim, sarcastically thanking me for not showing up. He called me an a@@hole and even threatened to pay me a visit at the job site where I was working. This violent and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. Jim clearly had no intention of checking me in or honoring my booking. I strongly advise avoiding this motel. The owner is violent, unprofessional, and left me in a difficult situation, costing me time, gas, and a lot of stress. Be very aware of this dangerous and unreliable establishment. We have the voicemail for anyone to listen too.

It's just a road motel, but it's perfect for what it is. Stayed the night before the ferry crossing. Renovated - very clean, comfortable, nice shower, nice bed. Great value. Would absolutely stay again.

We arrived late afternoon and were happy to get a room here. Friendly people, lovely, super clean room. Best price and close to restaurants. It has a country feel yet was close to the bigger city of Sydney.

We have quite a history with this motel. My husband and I have vacationed in Newfoundland during July for many years. We always stayed here before we crossed on the ferry and after we crossed back. Then I suppose the schedule changed and we crossed overnight and got a cabin on the ferry for years. We were unsure about traveling after the Covid closures but missed our friends in Newfoundland and the scenery and the food so much that we made a last minute decision to go. This caused a problem--almost impossible to get berths on the ferry and as we are now seniors, we need a place to lie down. We took whatever reservations we could and ended up staying at MacNeil's again both on the way there and the way back so you will be treated to a lot of photos. The motel is now run by the previous owner's son and his wife. We enjoyed our stays again. There is parking right by your room. The rooms are a nice size and clean. The bed is comfy, there is a flat screen TV, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Plenty of fluffy towels in the clean bathroom and plenty of grassy area for kids to play. It felt like going home again. Good memories. Thanks for a great stay.

I stay here every time I head over to Newfoundland and when I come back at the end of the trip. It is a quick 5 minute drive to the ferry. The rooms are always clean, the beds are super comfortable. The rooms are plain, but functional. There is always plenty of hot water, though with a slight sulphur smell. Not a big deal as I have a chalet and am used to it. They are pet friendly and my dogs love to go for a walk on the large property. Highly recommended for anyone in the area needing a clean, quiet place to stay for a night or 2
