Hotel Schimmelpenninck Huys

Location: Frequently praised for being "perfect" and "ideal" for exploring nearby attractions.

The hotel is like a maze but a beautiful one, filled with art and quirky, “weird” things that amazed us. I use the word maze because it really was quite the journey to get to our room. That said, the location of the hotel is perfect, and mazes are fun. We stayed in a basic room, which was just fine nothing special. One thing that caught us off guard was the bathroom window. If we forgot to close the curtain, anyone in the courtyard (binnenplaats) could see us using the toilet, which was a bit uncomfortable. We booked the hotel last minute, as it was our only option to spend the night in the city. We ended up paying the highest price (€225) which, in my opinion, wasn’t really worth it considering the nothing special room and the general standards for Groningen. However, the staff were lovely and had a great sense of humor. After checking into our room, we explored the hotel and saw a mouse. My friend was visibly shocked. We told the receptionist we had seen a rat, but the receptionist didn’t seem too concerned and just said, “It’s probably not a rat, but a mouse” as if that made it any better… Other than those few small remarks, it was a great stay overall!
