Due to swimmers itch swimming is safe waste deep but lengthy wading in the shallow is risky. I have been swimming in Duck Lake for 11 years and have never had swimmers itch, as long as you are careful and towel off the risk is very low. There are areas of the lake where you can wade and play fizbee, etc without concern but you need to boat there, thus a boat or kayak is a great way to enjoy this lake. Interlochen State park and Interlochen Arts Academy 1.5 miles north. State park has a nice beach area and the Arts Academy houses many prominent concerts and performances in multiple art forms. Just a short distance away from Traverse City, MI, host of the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival. Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsula's with over 20 vineyards. Many lakes, rivers and beaches within 20 minute radius. Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes 30 minutes.
