Absolute Gem of a country pub. Well worth the visit along with the lovely overnight accommodation too. The welcoming and service from the bar staff was spot on. So helpful. The cooked breakfast in the morning was very tasty and plenty of it. Cereal and yogurts were also available in the price

Well placed for the Park and ride into Chelmsford.

The room was very clean with a mix of modern and traditional facilities. Nicely renovated bathroom. The staff in the pub were very friendly and the food was excellent. A great choice of local beers and the food was delicious. Love the large beer garden.

The compasses inn is a hidden gem. It is far from any main roads and has been voted one of the best pubs for many years. Dining is uncoventional in that you have to choos from many options from a blackboard (rather quaint). The staff are extremely freindly

Authentic, rural pub.
Was very busy the eveningbwe stayed but the staff were very fruendly & efficient.
Dinner was great, pub food extremely well cooked & delicious!
We also enjoyed an excellent breakfast, cooked & served by a friendly & super efficient member of staff.
A great pit-stop for us.
