My tween daughter and I stayed at Hotel Marineau Shawinigan for two nights in February. We’d selected the property from a number of budget options in the region (we were there primarily for Domaine Enchanteur, so we considered a number of cities for lodging), and we found that Hotel Marineau was a wonderful value. It’s certainly not a luxury property, but it’s been extremely well renovated. There were a few subtle spots (e.g., pitted edges of doors) that gave a clue regarding what disrepair the place must have once been in, making the modern, tasteful renovations that much more impressive. Our room was spacious and extremely clean. There was a refrigerator, microwave, and table with chairs…perfect for eating in the room given that there weren’t a lot of options open for dining later in the evenings. The room’s heating system worked well, and there was lots of hot water and great water pressure in the shower. Beds and pillows were reasonably comfortable – certainly more so than is typical of budget hotels. And staff were bilingual and very friendly. I might suggest ear plugs for those who are light sleepers. We were in the hotel portion of the property (there are also motel-style rooms on the lower level), and we could hear a fair amount of noise from the hallway. There seemed to be some kind of small business gathering taking place at the hotel; the attendees were very respectful, but they had early morning starts and would sometimes quietly chat outside one another’s doorways at night. In addition, temper expectations for breakfast. There were a variety of bread items along with some cereal and yogurt, but the limited fruit available was very much past its prime. Overall, I would gladly stay at Hotel Marineau again in the future. It certainly exceeded our expectations for the price, and we loved how clean and cozy it was.
