The first room they gave us was not on an upper floor as requested with the reservation. The heater did not work so they moved us to a different room. This room had filthy carpets with spilled food/drink spots the size of a basketball. The sink valve did not work properly. The desk staff said they were aware of the situation but management would not do anything about it. We would would never stay there again.

We were there for 3 nights: The price was exorbitant for the quality of the facility. Maintenance has been very obviously deferred, facility appears not to have been updated from the 60s. We were told housekeeping services were not being done for environmental reasons - hogwash, they didn't have the help. Parking is limited and awkward (especially if you're handicapped, which I am) Regardless of cost, we would not stay there again.

The pictures show it all, the reviews say it all. Smelly, dingy, musty, old and mold in the bathroom. Run as fast as you can. Pay a little more for ANYWHERE other than here. The management was incredibly rude in addition. It's DISGUSTING. Beware: Spruceglen Inn is the same company/establishment, just next door.

This property is well located just a short walk to the main shopping and restaurants. The staff on all shifts proved friendly and helpful. The rooms are as advertised on the website plain but serviceable. If you are fussy about pillows bring your own. None of ours were softer than a rock. The only other notable deficiency was security. The side and back doors were unlockeda ll night. Could have been a two night oversight but not a good look. Overall wortth the price and we would return.

We were afraid we wouldn’t find a place to stay on the North Shore but were able to find this hotel on a Friday night. Great beds! Ok breakfast but they served The World’s Best Donuts which were delicious. Great coffee too. We didn’t have a chance to use the pool as it was late when we arrived but it looked nice. We could look out our window at the lake which was great.

Centrally located hotel in Grand Marais. Right on main highway. Could walk to harbor and My Sisters place for dinner. Air worked well. Ice machine on same floor. Continental breakfast in morning. Staff friendly and knowledgeable regarding dining options and sites to visit.

I have to say this was one of the worst experiences of my 71 years of life staying at a hotel! There was construction going on, and we were not pre-warned. But, the construction was right outside her window with workers heads been level with our windows. The pounding they yelling to each other in the loud music gave us no peace and quiet if we went back to our room! We have asked for compensation from that general manager named Mark Sandbo and he has not responded after several requests. As everyone knows takes time and energy searching for a place to stay taking the time away from whatever is going on at home to make these trips. Not to mention six hours one-way driving. I am very very disgusted at the audacity to book these rooms while it’s under construction. The other part of it was you had one door that you could enter this property on. All the other doors were blocked off by construction workers and equipment. We were told one door and that was it. I am hoping eventually the general manager, and the owner will see these reviews and respond.

Nice location in Grand Marais and close to downtown. Overall the hotel is old and dated. Rooms are fine. Breakfast operation is absurd, you tell the front desk what you want and they bring it out to you. Menu is average at best. Staff is helpful.

This hotel was clean and reasonably well-maintained, with everything in downtown Grand Marais within easy walking distance. It is older and showing its age, and the breakfast is pre-packaged, nothing fresh. The pool and spa were nice, and the rooms were spacious. This place worked very well for a large family with small children.
