Aspen Inn

Worst experience ever. The screen door did not close. The main door handle opened upwards not down and they didn't say anything so I stood outside of the building, in the cold trying to get in. Finally I had to get help. The room had no heat. When the nights hit freezing in the mornings, a bit of heat is needed, especially when the door to the room opens to the outside and you can see light through the cracks in the doors. They gave me a space heater. (BTW, no air-conditioning for the room either- contrary to their advertising.) It only gets worse . . . The door lock didn't work properly. It wouldnt unlock! I was locked inside the room for over an hour. The phone number on the website did not connect me to the lobby or person in charge. I had to call another hotel that shared a business owner to call someone to open the door. I got late to my event. The lock was supposed to be replaced when I returned but wasn't. When I asked for a different t room, they didn't know if I could get one. I waited another half hour and did get moved. I was promised a discounted rate for my troubles. The "discount " amounted to $4.00 per night less than the original price. I could go on, but other reviews covers the smells, disrepair, and what is called a continental breakfast. I'd sleep in my car before staying here again.

Rooms are nice and clean. Sauna is advertised, but has been broken for several months. They have no idea when owners are thinking of repairing. Outside trash bins overflowing with trash. We were there for 3 nights and 4 days. Trash was never dealt with.

Stayed in the area for work, Aspen Inn was close to things I needed, quiet and comfortable. Would stay again

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. I read a lot of reviews on here about rooms being outdated or loose light sockets. Really? I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and I know there are no 4 star hotels in Grand Marais. Know your area and people research where your going. Keep your expectations reasonable. ******* is full of whiny premadonnas.

The air in the room was heavy with an air freshener which was intoxicating. The fridge froze my cream and eggs. The switches on different appliances were broken. There were rugs which should no longer be used because they are unclean.

Parking area was full of potholes. The facility was ok for place to sleep, never saw hotel attendant, even though breakfast was offered.
