We visited the Hostelrie at Goodrich on Saturday night to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. I was surprised that apart from 2 other tables of 2, we were the only guests dining. However we were greeted by 2 very charming young men, who looked after us so well all through the evening. The menu and wine list are very limited, however we had a very enjoyable meal. The only criticism of the entire meal was that 2 of the party who ordered the steak did request it to be cooked medium rare and it did come out more medium to well, just a tiny point, but when you think how quiet the restaurant was it was a a little disappointing. That said the rest of the meal was very good, especially the seabass. We will definitely go back as the place does have a lovely feel to it and the front of house staff were so lovely

I think the chef rules the roost at this place and either needs disciplining or sacking. My husband and i went here on Friday and there were about 4 items to choose from- a steak ,a fish, mushroom risotto, and a burger. We chose steak and chips. The steak was ok, but seems the chef just couldn't be bothered to cook, so he opened a bag of rocket lettuce and put it in a pot and poured salt on it. He emptied the juice of a olive oil jar, salt and mixed it with cider vinegar and a teaspoon of shallots and out all of this in an egg cup and this was to go with the steak. He opened a bag of frozen chips and cooked them and poured salt over them and served in a mug size container and finally part fried mushrooms in a ton of salt. When I enquired why so much salt? The waier said the chef likes to use alot of seasoning- i said what would happen if you had customers with medicalissues, they couldnt eat this. The waiter said nothing- iwhen i said the chips were really salty , he tried to say they were fresh potatoes cooked by chef, I disagreed, i said i cook chips from potatos in a chip pan and these are frozen chips. Kaufmann or not. I could see the waier was lying and covering for chef. Oh I ordered for £4.50 a bowl of pickles. The chef diced raw beetroot an soaked them in vinegar and were unedible and rock hard, I ordered olives which were mushy and old- hence i knew were the juice came from to go in the steak sauce- the waiter said it was a chimichurri sauce. I said thats not a sauce its a vinegar dressing. I also ordered bread which came and was rock hard and guess what - salt thrown over it and a knob if butter with a half a teaspoon of crushed rock salt sat on top on the top of the butter£89.50 was spent at this place but never again. The owners need to sort out their chef pronto. I could hear the mutterings from the rest of the pub customers who looked disgruntled, so it wasn't just us. The waiter didn't show me the bottle of wine I ordered either so god knows whether I was conned into drinking the house wine at £9 a glass

We loved every minute of our short break, from the stunning first sight of the hotel, the peace and quiet, the comfort of our room, the pleasant atmosphere due mostly to the attentive and friendly service from Tyler and Sally, superb food for dinner and breakfast!! Everything we could have hoped for, we'll definitely be back.

What a wonderful oasis amidst the most beautiful scenery. Love how unique this place is. Artisan cooking at its best. The flavours were unique and testimony to the wonderful efforts the owners have gone to break the mould of the typical country food offering. Reasonable prices for food that would take time to source and prepare. The paired wines were so appreciated. The recommendations Sally made were superb. Sally and Tyler are exceptional. Service was swift and so enjoyable. They made us feel so welcome as did the owners Katherine and Daniel. We wish this couple and the team every continued success. They truly deserve it. Keep being your wonderful selves. Oh and the bed! Best pillows and mattress. Thank you. Susie and Andrew.

We booked the restaurant for my husband’s birthday and everything was absolutely perfect. We received a very warm welcome from a lovely lady as soon as we came in. The young gentleman who served us was delightful and he brought my husband ice cream with a candle (on the house) at the end of our meal. The wines are paired with the food which helps a lot and they are absolutely fantastic. We will be back and we’ll bring friends :) I forgot to mention that the food was superb.

We had a very long wait for our food, which when it came was average at best. A great shame as it was a lovely place and a good atmosphere. The pudding menu looked great but sadly we had didn't have any as we waited over an hour between our starter and main course
