Disappointed. We booked this hotel for one evening, after reading the reviews I was really looking for to it, however on arrival we waited ages to check in we rang the bell 3 times and still no one came, in the end my husband had to go to the bar to find someone who then found the receptionist. Who was taking to another member of staff ignoring the bell. Think her name was Kelsey. The room was nice but basic. No blackout blinds so the sun shone through early morning waking us up. No water in the room which was disappointing. Made a cup of coffee in the room, they was a note saying ring down to reception for milk my husband did this but no one answered the phone, so he walked down to the reception but no one was there, it took 10 minutes to find someone to get some milk. Evening meal was ok. Breakfast was awful Staff rude and not attentive apart from the young bar man, he was friendly. Would I stay here again NO! Very over priced!

So much our ‘best hotel’ that we’ve been every year since our honeymoon 47 years ago. Absolutely unique - gorgeous village setting, comfy olde-world rooms, attentive staff, good food and … quiet. Stay like this please … beats all our other holidays every year!

A return visit to this excellent hotel, a great bar, very friendly staff, superb rooms, and great views. Sadly, the restaurant was disappointing on this visit (previous visits, it has been very good). The menu is somewhat basic and the same as the bar menu (same price). Sadly, the meals were poor, and one burger was basically incinerated , a starter that was a tasteless mound of green stuff (supposed to a humus) garlic mayonnaise that was a strange dark colour and didn't taste much of garlic. (Apparently, it was black garlic) I hope that the management can resolve the issues in the kitchen.

First visit, went Sunday evening till Friday. Friendly welcome, good team who wanted to make our stay pleasant. Hotel is oldy worldly, beautiful gardens, loved it . The area is so scenic and some great walks. Rooms spotless , nicely decorated. Good choice for breakfast, choosing something different every morning. Good choice for evening menu and good range of drinks .. All the staff were very helpful and Grace, Kelsie and Ashley were very friendly and made our stay pleasant. Sean the night porter was a chatty interesting man, also very friendly . Won’t hesitate to visit again .

We had drinks in the garden which is lovely and spacious. The tables aren't close together and the views are beautiful. We then had dinner in the restaurant which was tasty. We both enjoyed our food and there were some vegan options. The veggie burger was yummy and the staff excellent.

Last minute getaway as a surprise from my hubby … what a delightful hotel .. full of character and charm, welcoming reception on check in room spotlessly clean and an added bonus …a comfy bed! …enjoyed a glass of wine in the beautifully looked after gardens whilst the sun was still shining … we ate in the valley view restaurant which was really busy …seems very popular however service was professional through out , food was yummy even managed to squeeze in a pudding …. We continued our evening in the lounge exchanging story’s with some other guests staying ..absolutely perfect! The staff are nothing like I’ve come across before …. So friendly and welcoming informative and attentive so much so we have rebooked to come back in winter …. Can’t wait to do the same in front of the fire!

From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome from the staff set the tone for our stay. Everyone we met was friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make us feel at home. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and beautifully presented, with every little detail thought through for comfort. The bed was so comfortable that it was tempting to spend the whole day there! The food was a real highlight – fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, and the evening meals were exceptional, with a great range of options to suit all tastes. The hotel’s charm, combined with its perfect location in the picturesque village of Goathland, made this a truly memorable trip. We left feeling refreshed, well-fed, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a welcoming, high-quality stay in the North York Moors.
