I’m definitely coming here again, Leah the manager can not do enough for you. She’s lovely. The breakfast is brilliant and the scenery is outstanding. I’m very sad to leave 😩 Till the next time. ☺️

In my opinion this place is not a hotel. It is simply a B&B. It is unstaffed for much of the day. There are no meals other than breakfast and no bar. The website doesn’t make this clear. There was nobody on reception when I arrived at 6pm. The room wasn’t serviced and the shampoo etc was sufficient only for one person for one night. Although the location is stunning, I felt cheated having expected a boutique hotel. It was not made clear to me before I parted with my money that this place was just a B&B.

If you read the most recent reviews, I think you get a full perspective on what has happened here. Unfortunately this is currently not the place that it used to be however they are still charging the prices that they used to charge. We stayed here for 3 nights and wish we had gone to the Rosevine. No need for a long review of all the things that weren't right, but sadly would not recommend this as a premium hotel. Great location and ideal for walking.

My boys and I have been going to The Driftwood Hotel since it opened and watched it grow and develop but still kept its warmth and soul and it was our happy place which felt like we were coming home every time we stayed. This was down to the warm and welcoming staff, Paul and Fiona (the owners), the amazing food and also other guests (some of whom became life long friends. It was a place you could relax. Its location was just a bonus. This changed on 1st July 2024 (it was supposed to be the last day of our stay there and we had one more night) when the new owner took it over. The staff were made redundant that day in the morning and asked to leave immediately. Just one member of staff was left. The boys and I sat in the hotel and watched this all unfold. No apologies from the new owner or even acknowledgement that we were guests staying there. We had no access to any drinks and we were basically left. By the end of the day the soul of the hotel had gone. All the reviews before this one were for the hotel. Not the bed and breakfast it has become. The boys and I left that day and won't be going back. The Driftwood lost its magic that day and there are plenty of other b&b's in the area that have restaurants and bars with similar views and friendly staff to choose from.

We have just returned from staying here so I’ll try to be as constructive as possible as I’m aware that this hotel has been given predominantly 5 star reviews for years but there has been a recent change of ownership which has included the closing of the hotel restaurant. This now means that you need a car to get to local restaurants to eat as the nearest place to eat is 30 mins walk away in Portscatho. There is no bar in the hotel or anywhere to get a nice coffee which is a real shame so the hotel is effectively run as a bed and breakfast. There is a cooked breakfast only 4 days a week and a cold buffet breakfast the other days so if you happen to book your stay on the days of the cold breakfast you might be disappointed. The cooked breakfast was nicely presented and there was a good variety of menu options, the cold breakfast was the usual cereals, cheeses and meats etc. There is no fridge in the room which was disappointing especially as there is no bar to purchase drinks so we were told we could use the communal fridge (in what used to be the bar) to store our drinks. Having to do this took me back to my younger days staying in a youth hostel rather than staying in a high end hotel which incidentally even with a reduction in booking due to the changes is still over £200 a night. We checked in around 4pm to find no staff at the desk but a piece of paper with our name and a key left. All a bit strange I thought and there was nothing to formalise that we had actually arrived and if this was in keeping with fire regulations. Staff (when we saw them) were very friendly though. The selling point of this hotel is the stunning ocean views and proximity to the beach and the gardens are well maintained. The room was very clean but a bit dated, the bathroom sink had a crack in it and some of the furnishings look tired. The bed tilted at both ends so it felt as if we were falling out of it. The garden furniture and decking area needs cleaned up as the chairs were covered in moss and the decking needs repainted. I’ll be honest that having read the previous reviews I expected better. If you’re staying here, then plan ahead for your dining options and pre book restaurants locally. If relaxing with a glass of wine from the bar is your thing then book somewhere else. We booked before the changes occurred and we were given the option to cancel but continued with our booking at a reduced price but sadly were still disappointed with the facilities.

Delightful location overlooking the bay. Room was lovely with a view over the garden and the bay. Sadly, just before we went, we were informed that the Hotel had changed hands and would now only be a B&B. We were offered a reduction in the room rate and , as we were only booked in for B&B decided to take this up. However, we were slightly disappointed overall, although we do appreciate that we stayed during a ' bedding in ' few days with the new owners. We were not made aware beforehand that there would now be no cooked breakfast options on offer, only a cold selection. Whilst adequate it was disappointing. For accommodation at this price bracket, why could the 2 bottles of mineral water provided not be replaced daily. Also, a mini fridge with some fresh milk? Perhaps a minifridge and a Nespresso ( or similar) machine, especially as there is now no bar/ restaurant available at which to get a decent cup of coffee? We were concerned to find that after 5, there are no staff on site. There were no emergency contact details in the room - so if there had been a (non 999 type emergency ) such as a power cut/ flood - it could have been difficult to get this sorted. We understand this particular issue may now have been sorted but are not sure. Overall , we did have good nights sleep in pleasant surroundings, but we feel it now very overpriced for the facilities offered We did speak to the new owner during our stay . We also emailed him with our constructive criticism but have had no reply.

We went for an evening meal here and left, terribly disappointed. The food was mediocre and the bill was HUGE! £70 per head for food, drinks are ridiculously overpriced. Sadly would not recommend. I understand Driftwood used to be a michelin star restaurant but now it feels as if it's trading on old reviews and memories.

We have been visiting here for over 20 years and it has just been a joy. The staff are brilliant, whether front of house, waiters, cleaners no matter who we talked with they were equally friendly, helpful and just very good at their job. The food at Driftwood has allways been a highlight and the current chef, Paul Green, is amazing with every dish tssting fresh and making full use of local produce. Sitting in the light, airy dining rooms overlooking the amazing views is such a treat which we will really miss. The rooms are simple and comfortable, and you go to sleep listening to the waves, with the only negative being very poor water pressure in the shower. Sadly the current owners are taking a well deserved retirement and from the 1st July 2024 the new owners are running the place as a b&b. No more wonderful meals and for us no more visits to this beautiful and relaxing location as there just isnt anywhere to eat in walking distance other than another hotel and the hidden hut. Thankyou to every member of staff at Driftwood for making this such a special place to visit.
