Our family had the opportunity to stay at a hotel last week, which we chose because of its rich history and the promise of an immersive cultural experience. Though we were aware that it was an older establishment, we were excited to learn more about its background and the stories it held. Unfortunately, our excitement quickly turned into disappointment as we faced several challenges from the moment we arrived.
Upon our arrival, we discovered that we had been directed to the wrong wing of the hotel. We found ourselves in the section we had not booked, which was puzzling and frustrating. The bellboy’s response did little to ease our confusion. Rather than offering assistance, he simply pointed us in the direction of the correct wing, leaving us to navigate the situation on our own.
The check-in process was disappointingly swift, almost mechanical, as if the staff were merely going through the motions rather than genuinely welcoming us. This lack of warmth made us feel like unwelcome visitors rather than valued guests.
Our initial shock escalated when we opened the door to our room. To our horror, we found a cockroach scuttling across the floor, clearly on the hunt for food. This was not the first impression we had hoped for. Furthermore, the carpet in the room was stained and dirty, and the same could be said for the washroom, living room, and balcony. It was clear that the hotel was not receiving the level of maintenance one would expect from a 5-star establishment.
Breakfast was another letdown. The offerings were minimal and lacked variety, and the service did not add any comfort to our experience.
While the hotel does boast a beautiful exterior and some lovely public areas, it was evident that the overall maintenance and service standards were severely lacking. Given our experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a pleasant and high-quality stay.
