Colonial Hotel

Really decent place to stay. Attractive hotel, nice accommodations. Enjoyed that there was a choice of pillows, firm or soft. Nice pool and hot tub, friendly staff. Would easily stay here again.

I have given this review an AVERAGE score because I want to be as fair as possible. As a regular guest of the hotel, they were acceptable. As a person hosting over 60 rooms, a wedding after party and farewell breakfast, they were poor. The Good - the location is great if you are attending a wedding at this hotel of the nearby Harrington Farms. The setting is lovely surrounded by pretty grounds and woods. There is a gazebo in the front that I'm sure people would want to take photos. Note that while we were here, they were updating the gazebo and it was not complete. The decor is very "colonial" with stately pieces, dark carpet, dark furniture, etc. The lobby with the grand staircase is pretty. The hotel offers a workout room, a small pool and large spacious bar/restaurant. The rooms are standard fare and to be honest, a bit tired. Everything was clean but there was worn furniture. As a regular guest - I would stay here again because there are NO other nearby competitive hotels. The Bad - the hotel elevator was broken. When we checked in, I thought it was something that would be fixed the next day. I heard that they were waiting on a part and the elevator has been broken since December (5 months ago). This was an issue for some of my guests who had to carry their bags up the grand staircase. Some people were able to get their rooms changed to the first floor. Another guest who had requested a handicap room discovered a room with a tub (she could not lift her legs to get over it). It seems that the front desk thought that the first floor was sufficient enough for someone who was handicapped. The Ugly - If you are NOT having your wedding here and you are considering using this hotel for your wedding guests, keep these things in mind: 1) Photos - There is a photo fee of $200 to take photos in the gazebo or on the staircase 2) Welcome Bags - if you want to hand out Welcome Bags, they will happily charge you $5.00 per bag to hand the bag to your guest. Oh, and they will add a 20% admin feed and tax to that $5.00 charge too! 3) After Party - we had a very similar After-Party for my older daughter who was married 3 years ago. It was held a similar hotel as the Colonial. They charged us for the amount of food that would be served based on the people there. We had pizza and wings. The cost including tax and service was about $1000. The Colonial After Party charges you based on the number of people checked into the hotel……so for almost the exact same food for the same amount of people, we paid almost $3000! To be as fair as possible, I will say the food was good – great chicken strips with fun sauces and pizza. The wait staff and bar tenders were very attentive. We liked that they had pitchers of water on the bar for folks who just needed water. So, kudos to the staff.
