The Western Hotel

This hotel is in a good location, only a 5 min walk to Eyre Square. Our room was very large and clean. We stayed for 1 night and found the reception staff to be helpful and friendly. The big plus for this hotel, is the onsite parking. Recommended !

The location is perfect to walk around the city. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable however very basic and could be improved with small amenities such as a fridge.

We arrived as a group of 8 for our Christmas night away. The lobby and bar have received a revamp and look really well. On check in the receptionist was polite and very helpful. Offering a complimentary upgrade to a nearby apartment. We declined and popped up to our room. The corridor was yet to be upgraded. Arriving at our room on the 3rd floor. On entering the room it was a huge disappointment to find the hallway warmer than the room. It was Baltic and the radiator was stone cold. No heater or AC unit present. There was an ironing board and no iron. In one of our friends rooms the towels reeked of cooking oil. The towels were obviously stored close to the kitchen. I brought it to the hotel reception attention and was told the heat comes on and off. I insisted a heater was put up there. Assured it would be sorted on our return. We returned just after 23.30, thinking we could have a drink in the lobby and a chat. We were met with darkness and seemed to interrupt the night porters conversation on his fone. He stated everything was closed and there was no bar for residents and was quite abrupt. We returned to the arctic on the 3rd floor where no heater arrived in the meantime. On check out it was highlighted but the receptionist couldn't have cared less. In my opinion 270e for a Sunday night was excessive but for the quality we received it was daylight robbery. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid.

Arrived yesterday . Upgraded to a penthouse apt over looking the whole of Galway bay and over Eyre square overlooking the Xmas markets . Location amazing . Right in the heart of the city . The staff are amazing , so friendly and warm . Always saying hello and had lovely chats with them . Had some soup and sandwiches for lunch and they were soo tasty , down to the side salad garnish . We enjoyed the lunch so much we decided to have evening dinner . We had beef short rib , Irish stew and seabass and all were fantastic . I would really recommend if you stay here EAT IN THE RESTAURANT, you will not be disappointed . They have live music in the bar which was very enjoyable. It has recently been refurbished and the decor is modern but warm and cosy . Toilets spotless . So yeah if you are thinking of booking her DO IT ! You will not be disappointed. We will definitely be back .
