Japanese Onsen Ryokan Kohakuen

The room was clean. Amenities were provided. The breakfast was varied and delicious. It was a wonderful hotel with a Japanese feel throughout. I also used the large public bath, but there was visible dust on the fan in the changing room. The ice cream and lemon water after the bath was very good. I would like to use it again.

The Gubaiyuan Hotel in Shihe Hot Spring Township has an elegant environment, good hot spring quality, good attitude of the waiters, and comfortable and large rooms. You can see the Southern Alps, and the breakfast is delicious. It is a good hot spring hotel.

I really liked how small and quiet it was.

It's old in a very good way, but it feels nostalgic. The building has a nostalgic feeling that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to the 1960s and 1970s, but it's all very carefully cleaned, so there's nothing unpleasant about it, and I rather felt that it had a wonderful characteristic that you can't find anywhere else. We swim together in a pond with beautiful water, and unlike other facilities, the dining area is new, and the meals are quite substantial! The hot springs were very pleasant, and the staff were all kind and smiling. I want to go again.

I stayed here for the first time in a while. Necessary amenities and small lotions are available next to the front desk. The room is a 10-tatami Japanese-style room without a veranda. It was a beautiful room that had been renovated. The large public bath on the 7th floor had a renovated cypress open-air bath, and it had a nice cypress scent. The indoor bath was also large. Since the men's and women's baths were switched, I went to a different bath the next morning, and the indoor bath had warm water and the open-air bath was larger. The early morning view from here is truly amazing. There was lemon water and new ice cream at the rest area outside the bath. For dinner, we had a restaurant with separate rooms. Dinner was a multi-course meal, and each dish was brought to us separately. All the dishes, including the sashimi and the roast beef on a Western plate, were delicious, and I was impressed with the Shingen Mizumanju, a rare fruit. The food was seasonal. Breakfast was changed from a Japanese set meal to a buffet. Personally, I would have preferred a Japanese set meal, but I guess that's unavoidable in this day and age. The breakfast was a standard buffet, but it was served in a nice private room, so there was no rush and I was able to eat at my own pace. On the 8th floor, there was a lounge and kids room that hadn't been there before, and both windows offered a wonderful view of the mountains. This is an inn I'd like to visit again in a different season.

There were many family-friendly services and it was fun. The lounge was a great place to relax, with toys for kids and wine for adults. It was even better that there was no one there so we didn't have to worry about anything.

This is a mid-range hot spring hotel located a few minutes by car from Isawa Onsen Station. I thought the large bath was a little small, but the amount of water was not a problem. Since it is not a scenic location, the open-air bath is simply a bathtub on the balcony. For dinner, I had a course of Wagyu beef shabu-shabu and teppanyaki, and the results were passable. I thought the breakfast buffet was good with a wide variety of options. The problem is the structure of the building. Although it claims to be barrier-free, some rooms have about five steps before the elevator to the large bath. To avoid these steps, you have to go down to the first floor first. There are also no handrails in the large bath. The room was a twin bed, but the size was not a problem. The table was small, there was no luggage stand, and there was no bedside table, so it was inconvenient when taking out small items of luggage. Since it is a hot spring hotel, you need to hang towels and bath towels, but the towel racks are only in the private bathroom changing rooms, so I think it is difficult to dry them. In the end, I hung a hanger by the window to hang them up... There is an outlet at the bedside, so you can charge your cell phone. There is no switch on the bedside, and no hand lamp, so it is a little inconvenient. It can't be helped as it is a characteristic of Isawa Onsen, but since the only feature is the hot spring, there are no facilities for children to enjoy, so I don't think it is suitable for families with children. My companion (mother in her 80s) said that it was very helpful to borrow a cart to put trays on during the breakfast buffet.

Among the inns in Isawa Onsen, this is my family's favorite inn recently. Recently, there was an interview with the president of Kohakuen in the Isawa Onsen pamphlet (HELLO ISAWA), which I found interesting. Apparently, they are trying out a new era of spa tourism, such as transforming a 107-tatami banquet hall into a dining area with private rooms. The building has also been renovated, and when I came here this time, it had changed again. The room was probably a Japanese-style room before, but it was now a Western-style room with a bed, chair, and small table. Even though there was a bed, it wasn't that narrow, and there was a cushion, so it could be used as a Japanese-style room. However, the edge of the wooden bed base was about two times larger than the mattress, so I was careful not to hit my feet. I was looking for a power outlet, but I noticed later that there was an electric plug on the back of the new bed. The TV is large and you can watch YouTube. The two keys are also convenient. Also, the changing and washing area of ​​the large bath used to have a Showa retro atmosphere, but it has been renovated. Toners and other amenities are available. The baths that are alternated between men and women are the same as before, but there are windows on both sides of the indoor bath, and it is a large public bath. When we entered the open-air bath at around 6:00 the next morning, we could see the sunrise between the mountains. From the bath rest area on the 7th floor, we could see the neighboring mountains and the Southern Alps. We had dinner in a private room-like dining area. The food was beautiful and delicious, and my wife said, "It's a good place to come twice a year. It's completely different from the old days." She compared it to decades ago when she came with her parents. This time, we also went to Isawa Onsen BYO, and there was a corkage fee of 1,000 yen, and we brought a full bottle of Yamanashi wine, but here a full bottle of Yamanashi wine is reasonable from 2,530 yen (half bottles start from 1,540 yen). In that case, we didn't need to bring it in. " The dessert, the strawberry mousse with gyuhi, was a delicious dessert that I had never tried before. In addition, this meal included roast beef and chicken sukiyaki, so I thought that even those who eat a lot would be satisfied with the menu. Although it was a breakfast buffet, we ate in a private room-like room at dinner time. At the buffet, the staff handed out trays and plastic gloves, and there was always a staff member there. Even at the buffet, the food area was clean, so you can eat comfortably. The stewed beef tendon was very tender. There was also a bibimbap bowl with various toppings. There were four types of fruit, and I had coffee with petit cake in the morning and took the coffee back to my room. After breakfast, I happened to look at the garden, which was also cleaner than before, and there were large, gorgeous carp swimming in the pond (with an artificial waterfall). Finally, the tag on the room key (with the key number written on it) was small, and it got mixed up with the key or somewhere and I couldn't find it (I found it later). I think the key chain on the key would be better if it was larger. Kohakuen has evolved every time I visit recently, but it still has its good points. I would like to come and stay again in a different season.
