Let's be clear: you could not get a better location to stay in Florence if you tried. You walk out of the secure, gated apartment and practically fall face-first into the Duomo and baptistry, and every single attraction in old town Florence is within a 20-minute walk. Our lovely host (who was always only one WhatsApp message away) was waiting for us outside the building upon our arrival and graciously helped carry our luggage up to the 2nd floor/primo piano. The "breakfast in bed" brought into our room every morning at a time of our choosing was absolutely scrumptious, including your choice of coffee drink, local pastries, meat, eggs, etc. There was unlimited water (and ice too?! Unheard of). The updated bathroom and noise-muffling windows were shockingly excellent given the overall age of the building--but of course, you could always open the windows and let the sounds of Florence sooth you to sleep if you wanted. Trattoria La Casalinga, a restaurant recommended by our host, was the best food experience we had in Italy. I have to imagine that it was only as affordable as it was because it was January, because the price was also hard to beat in an otherwise somewhat expensive city. As expected, it had a sort of AirBNB vibe with no central lounge area or other "hotel"-like amenities, but that's not what you're in Florence for! We will absolutely stay there again if we make it back.
