Great relaxing weekend and great service

We had a fantastic holiday at Careys manor hotel & SenSpa,Enjoyed an amazing meal for my 60th birthday at the Blaireau French restaurant Richard was a great host.Afternoon tea was brilliant.we also had a great meal at the Zen restaurant traditional Thai food.Also enjoyed the SenSpa very relaxing.we would like to say a big thank you to Anthony Steve and all the staff at Careys manor for making this a very special experience.we highly recommend Careys manor as this was our 2nd visit this year.Pete and Dang Ellis

Careys Manor arranged alfresco dining for us in the courtyard on the 10th of July. This was the second year we’ve done this for our team event. As per last year the food and setting were perfect, but it was the service that blew us away again. A special thanks to the head waiter & wine expert (the best I’ve ever come across) and his team who were fully attentive to our every need-a real team of professionals.

Where do we start? The hotel website says draw up to the main front door and park temporarily to drop your bags off. We arrived to a wedding in full flow with guests milling around and hogging most of the the front garden and driveway so we were unable to park and drop off our bags. An area should have been roped off for arriving guests and the wedding guests requested to keep away. We do not consider it to be a professional, front of house representation, to be served by a polite young man with a long ponytail and long, pink, glossy acrylic nails. The first computer terminal did not work, then we were floored when asked for an actual physical credit card as the hotel cannot accept digital cards. Good grief, what century is the hotel in? I did not have any, but fortunately my wife had hers. If not, what would have happened? The young man who checked us in, did assist with transporting our luggage from our car in the rear car park, through the hotel to our room. Thank you. We had booked the roof terrace suite, room 001. One saving grace of our stay. Roomy, nice lounge area, super bathroom, fantastic powerful Amazon rainforest shower. Small double bed for the room rate. However, the roof terrace furniture is not what is shown in the website photo. Now it is grotty wooden chairs. Also cobwebs in the windows which had restricted opening locks which made the bedroom stuffy on our two nights which were really hot. Lunch and an evening drink were fraught. We were unable to sit on the front lawn as every table was being occupied and hogged by wedding guests. They should have been allocated a roped off, reduced area. There is an outside terrace by the Cambium restaurant. It was empty so we asked if we could sit outside there for lunch. We were told, ‘no,’ as it was reserved for wedding guests. It was empty! Wedding guests hogged and over ran the bar, (which clearly did not have enough staff on duty to cope,) queue jumped and were loud in public spaces for other residents. The Senior bar steward was stressed to the nines. On the subject of technology, he appeared to be stapling every paper till receipt to the signed room receipt and then keeping them. Dinner in Cambium was a car crash. We arrived for 7.30 pm to find what appeared to be chaos. An insufficient number of staff rushing past us as we stood waiting for some time to be seated. When we did get seated, our waiter seemed to spend a lot of his time nattering to a very chatty couple, to our detriment. Having booked a table for 7.30 pm, our main courses did not arrive till gone 9.00 pm. We both ordered the Market Fish of the Day, which was lemon sole. I enjoy the filleting experience and ordered mine on the bone, my wife ordered hers off the bone. What my wife received by way of fish was an insult. Less than 20% of what I obtained from my fish. The entire team were extremely helpful, kind and considerate throughout. In particular a big shout out to Oliver C, Dida, Dani, Mort, Hazel, Nathan, Vassana and Lord who were all outstanding!!!! The location is stunning and the spa facilities were fantastic! We loved dining in the Cambium restaurant as well as The French Restaurant, Le Blaireau! The French onion soup was delicious! Would highly recommend Corey's Manor!!!
