We had a lovely meal with our friends. Great grub: the sausage and mash was excellent. The others enjoyed their choices. I did not pick the pie as my friend did, as it was not a real pie, but a casserole with a flaky pastry lid! But it was very tasty, he said! Lovely strawberry and ice cream pud - locally sourced both. Excellent bets, ciders, wines, guns etc. would go back!

We walked past and the pub looked great, very busy. The service was not so great. The condiment bottles were all empty and I had to go and find new ones, no one was available to help. We had fish goujons and burgers. The fish was so thin, small and the goujons were mainly deep fried breadcrumbs. Rock hard and oily. The burgers seemed to have a mix of chorizo, paprika and some beef. We had to remove the rubber like fat from the bacon as we chewed. Back bacon is not the bacon for burgers. Not a beef burger and not good. The chips were really greasy and just tasted awful. All the sauces including the mayonnaise were some brand we had never heard of and were of the lowest quality. It was such a shame as it seems to be the only place to go to eat in the village and the menu is not difficult to make great. Pillars of Hercules 5 min up the road is the polar opposite.

Excellent experience staying at The Covenanter for one night. We booked a deluxe room and stayed in the 'Queens Room' that is at the front of the hotel opposite Falkland Palace. Along with the 'Cameron Room' it's accessed via a separate entrance at the front of the hotel. This is a very old building so the plumbing etc is quite noisy and we could hear the music below us (albeit not that loud) from the bar. Everything was very clean and the shower was excellent, with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided. An extra portable heater in the room compensates for slightly draughty windows (again given age of the property, this is not a surprise). We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Decent menu (pub food, but with daily specials) and reasonable prices. High point was breakfast which was one of the best we've had in a small hotel. Usual continental options and a range of cooked choices. I had an omelette that was excellent and my husband had the full Scottish which was outstanding - generous portions and perfectly cooked. We were also able to park for free just across the street from the hotel. Would definitely recommend and Falkland is beautiful.

Waitress was lovely but the chef was obnoxious. Ordered the steak, kitchen’s reply - No steak! Ok, the Sausages, mash and seasonal vegetables, but chips instead of mash. Kitchen’s reply - NO, must be mash. Ok. Order comes out - Sausages, mash and gravy. Asked waitress “Where are the seasonal vegetables?” 5 minutes later the kitchen sends out a very small bowl of peas. Nice little pub. Good beer and ambience, but would not order food again.

I stayed here for 3 nights during the cold snap in November. I had a problem with the original room that I booked as the door lock pad stopped working. A young fella (Declan I think?) got me transferred (upgraded) to the Bruce room. I also had a problem then with the central heating radiator not working properly in the bedroom. This was temporarily remedied with an electric radiator and so I was warm. The main radiator was fixed the next day. Since the January Trip Advisor review saying that the rooms were tired. They must have been renovated. Both my rooms were very clean and well decorated, with a really nice bathroom in each. All the staff, without exception, were excellent. Friendly, attentive and efficient. I ate in the bar each night. The food was excellent. Tasty, well cooked and plenty of variety. I hope to stay next year when I am up in Falkland.
