How best to describe a number of disappointments for one stay at a chain that's typically reliable? First, not being able to check in at 3:00 PM. Evidently, we were not the only ones impacted as there were a half dozen others sitting in the lounge with suitcases past the promised check in time. And not just "a little bit" past 3, but more than an hour. John was staffing the front desk & was empathetic. I asked to speak with the General Manager & was told she had left for the day. Next, we went to the room & as we tend to do, turned on the TV. Alas, it was not functioning. Normally not a big issue but I'm a MLB fan & especially enjoy playoff baseball. Not today though since it took a bit before someone could fix the TV situation. The final straw was taking a shower - or attempting to do so. I don't take long showers but on this particular day, the water pressure was so abysmal that there was no other option. It seemingly took forever to rinse head & body - and you were still left wondering whether you were successful. Without a doubt, one of the worst shower experiences I can recall. Also, there was a lot of construction immediately adjacent to the hotel and the parking garage. So perhaps the degradation of this hotel could be ascribed to a phenomenom that was recently described by the BBC as "skimpflation": But in addition to shrinking products, businesses are also cutting back on the quality and availability of their services, while keeping prices steady. This is called 'skimpflation' – and although the changes are sometimes significant, they often fly under the radar. We love going to Fairhope, but will need to reconsider based on hotels.
