Having stayed at the Jury's Inn chain of hotels previously in other cities we decided to stay at the hotel when we visited Exeter. The hotel enjoys a great location and the facilities are ok but unfortunately the servicing leaves a lot to be desired. There is no mention of this anywhere on their website and you are not told at any stage when you book and you only find out once you have paid and visit your room. On entering your room you find a nicely laminated note from the management advising you that your rooms will not be serviced on short stays. The management are using the excuse of the Covid pandemic to save costs and avoid doing your beds, emptying your bins, changing your towels, replenishing your toilet paper and the complimentary tea/ coffee. This is now only provided on request. My previous experience of this chain of hotels was that you also had a small fridge in the room and you were provided with complimentary bottles of water, this is no longer the case. Effectively the client experience has been watered down yet the prices remain the same. The client experience received from the staff was inconsistent, some were great others were very unhelpful. The hotel is not cheap and based on their current offering way overpriced.

Excellent
GGuest UserWe arrived at Exeter by train to see a friend who lived there and had to look for an accessible hotel. On the Internet, we came across Hotel Indigo, the site of the former House of Fraser dept store. With my wife in a wheelchair, the reception staff showed us a step-free entrance, as the main entrance is approached with steps. The staff were very friendly and polite and treated us well. Our room was spacious, clean, and well-kept. My wife loved the bathroom with its chessboard floor tiling and marble sink surrounds. She was also impressed with the quaint tea cups. We turned down in-house breakfast, as we thought that £20 each every morning was exorbitant! That's £40 for the two of us, and for four mornings, breakfast alone would have set us back £160. However, while my wife was having an afternoon nap in our room, I went down to the basement for a two-hour spa session. This includes a bubble bath, steam room and sauna. The price for the spa for non-residents was £30, but by giving my room number, I paid £20. Booking is recommended. The hotel is a couple of minutes from the Cathedral, and although our window looked over the High Street, there was no overnight traffic noise. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Exeter.
GGuest UserGood room, with lots of character and a handy en-suite . Amazing central location, pub staff were v friendly. V v old building so lovely low steep stairs up to the room, low doorway, and gorgeously slightly uneven floor. Room did however need more attention on the cleaning, the tiles in the shower had orange/ brown mildew on them, the shower hose had a section that was thick black with gunk… and everywhere was a bit dusty. Sorry to be so explicit but hopefully it’s an easy fix. Excellent tea and coffee provision. Tips to others if booking - the highest up rooms are the quietest, it was a busy Saturday night and we didn’t hear much of it at all. I imagine some rooms will have been noisier.
GGuest UserWe used this hotel as our base to tour South Devon. The hotel was above and beyond our expectations. Our room was comfortable, the bathroom was large and well stocked. The hotel staff were exceptional, shout out for Alfie who was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is amazing! Great choice of individually packaged cereals, fresh fruit, danish pastries, and a choice of hot breakfasts including dishes such as poached eggs with smoked salmon. All topped of by a great choice of clipper teas or coffee. Can totally recommend this little gem of a hotel.
GGuest UserThere are many such lovely family hotels in Exeter. They are very cozy ~ very close to the main campus and not far from the city center. It is a good choice to stay here for family visits! The family room for 3 people is very recommended. Besides the master bedroom with a large bed, there is also a small room with single beds.
GGuest UserBeing used to the likes of other budget hotel chains when on business trips I was looking forward to my stay however feel let down given the prestigious reputation of the Mercure brand. The hotel building itself is beautiful and the room was modern in decor, however unfortunately the building fabric had not been modernised leading to an uncomfortable night. The room was very warm with a single window that only opened slightly and no air conditioning/fan provided. Even on a cold September night the room was uncomfortably warm into the early hours. My room was positioned opposite what seemed to be the kitchen/some sort of generator/heater which kicked in at 6am in the morning waking me up as the window had to remain open to keep the room cool. The range of breakfast was good (cooked breakfast, pastries, cereals, continental), but sadly the quality was quite poor. Despite being the first person at 8am on a Sunday the food was cold overall and the sausages and bacon were very tough and leathery. The staff on every interaction were helpful and polite, especially the receptionist when checking in. Overall a disappointing stay and sadly not the first poor experience at an Accor hotel.
What a place. Rooms are great (bed is so comfortable), staff are lovely, the pub (which you can’t hear from the room) is fantastic. The food is second to none and reasonably priced. 3 minute walk and you’re at the shops. Doesn’t have parking but there is a big car park 1 minute away. Will never stay anywhere else when we come to Exeter again. Thank you to everyone.
YYUANQIHotel room is good, big, very clean, good value for money, but the hotel is old-fashioned villas without elevators, the hotel did not consider the age level when arranging guests to stay, I was arranged for the 4th floor room, had asked to change the lower floor room, However, the hotel said that there is no such room, and it can only be forced to climb the stairs every day. It is very tired. Fortunately, the reception staff has a good service attitude and helped me to carry the heavy big boxes upstairs. I hope that the hotel will consider the age of the guests and the convenience of staying when arranging the room.
What a lovely room. Stayed in room 3 from 5th September to the 6th September. Checked in pretty late 9.30pm. Staff was very welcoming and polite. Didn't get the try the food as the kitchen was closed. As for the room, it was very modern. Bed was very comfortable and a decent amount of pillows. Smart TV in room, free WiFi, cleanliness was not an issue. Shower was very powerful. Parking was not an issue either. Could easly fit my 3.5t luton van in the car park. For £50 this was a bargain coming from someone who spends attest 1 night a week in hotels due to work. Would highly recommend.
Since staying fit is important to a lot of guests, it's no surprise that gyms can be found in many hotels.
Courtyard Exeter Sandy Park and The Devon Hotel
are some popular hotels with gyms.
