Visited on a girl’s trip. The rooms were musty due to a recent leak, thankfully the bedding and towels were clean. Jean at the front desk was cranky but Krista was amazing and helpful with accommodating our needs. When I booked the room, I thought we were staying in the main (pictured on website) home. Make sure to note which building your room is in. Fortunately, we are younger and able bodied to carry suitcases up a flight or two of stairs, as there are no ramps or elevators at the 3 buildings on the property. The breakfast and dining nook is delightful with quite tasty food. Jose, our server, was friendly and efficient. Overall, our stay was peaceful and restful!

Stayed here for a little weekend getaway without the kids and we had a wonderful time. From the front desk, to the restaurant/bar staff. to the housekeeping staff, everyone was pleasant, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to be around. The room was wonderful with an exceptionally comfortable bed. Bathroom was large and clean. Close to everything. We spend much of our time driving into old town Essex and hitting antique shops in the area. The restaurant had delicious food and breakfast was wonderful. We grabbed pizza and drinks and watched the Mets game in the room one night and had a great time. Highly recommended and we will return.

We booked an overnight in room 217 which was in the carriage house. When we arrived we were shocked by how different it looked from the pictures online. The main house and carriage house had peeling paint. To the immediate left of the carriage house there was a mess as well as garbage on the side porch (see pictures). We were willing to let that go until we stepped inside. There was a horrible heavy odor from dampness/mold. They had dehumidifiers running on each floor but it wasn’t helping. When we entered the room the odor was still there. It was newly painted and had a new floor but the furniture wasn’t the same as in the picture and looked tired. The windows on the door going to the porch was very dirty (see pic) and the porch was unkempt with peeling paint and furniture in disarray. We went to the front desk to see if there was another room available as we could see another house that looked fairly new (believe the 300 rooms are in there) but they were all booked. The hostess said she could give us a refund so we left to go to another location. Over a week went by and I still hadn’t received my refund so I called the Inn. No apology was given she just said she is doing it now. Very disappointed…

Serendipity brought us to the Copper Beech Inn. It wasn’t planned but it became a highlight of our three-week vacation. The hotel and its grounds were incredible, providing a serene environment for actual relaxation. We attempted to stay further nights but could not cancel our other previous hotel reservations. An unexpected memory we shall treasure. The inn encompasses three separate buildings, The main building was built over 200 years ago. It provides the main dining areas, bar and guest rooms upstairs. The woodwork within this building is astounding. It reminds me of the type you would see in old Victorian homes. The interior looks pristine due to their wonderful upkeep and maintenance. There is an enclosed veranda that overlooks an elaborate garden area. This garden has a fountain surrounded by colorful beds of flowers. Chairs provide the ability to partake in its tranquil splendor. The other two buildings are a renovated carriage house converted into hotel rooms and a newer building containing more rooms. We stayed in the newer building. It has a main entrance hall which can be used as a reception area. Our room was easily over 400 sq feet. It contained an ultra-modern walk-in shower and spacious jacuzzi tub. Our room faced out onto a large natural area. We could not believe the quietness of the surrounding environment. Total bliss. We purchased the breakfast meal plan. We were provided a menu of about six different choices to choose from. Found it difficult to select due to the offerings. Their coffee and orange juice were great. The meals were also delightful. We were not able to partake of dinner since they do not serve dinner on Monday and Tuesday; the days we visited. But we conversed with other guests who had dinner and were pleased with both service and meal quality. It is important to mention that this inn is family owned. Christa was the family member we interacted with during our stay. She has a delightful personality and while treating all patrons with respect, as we observed, she demonstrates her appreciation for the guests visiting. She provides services in the traditional ways. Christa’s temperament aligns with the inn’s values exactly; excellent service provides returning customers. Her jobs are many. She interacted with us during check in / check out and breakfasts. Jose, a dining room employee, provided excellent service with all aspects of our meals. I have spent my professional life traveling both domestically and internationally. The quality of service provided to us was on par with what I would expect from the high-tier hotels. It was personal, professional, and appreciated. I highly recommend this “get away” for your next travel if you are in the area.

I really enjoyed being at this Inn. It's very peaceful, with rolling lawns, gardens, outdoor chaises, tables and umbrellas, etc. The Main House, which has four rooms (all on the 2nd floor-no elevator) also houses a restaurant and a really nice bar. There is also a carriage house with several rooms and the Comstock House. We had originally booked a room in the carriage house, asking for ground floor, but without saying a word, we were placed in room 301--the Ivoryton Suite. This was a considerable upgrade and was apparently due to renovations in the other room. Luckily, we were ok with the 8 steps required to get down into the room. 301 is a beautiful room with two very large beds on opposite sides of the huge room. it's well lit and has a coffee service, bottled water provided and an enormous, well-lit bathroom. The jacuzzi tub is huge and high sided and there were robes provided. Just FYI, if you can't do steps you can't really be in this room. As an update to other reviews, the breakfast that is provided is excellent and is ordered from a menu that offers several items, including pancakes, french toast and omelettes. The server was very efficient. All in all it was a good experience and we would most definitely return. It's more private than the other Inns in the area.

The restaurant was very disappointing. The menu presented had a very limited number of items, about a third of what was on the menu posted on the website. $15 salads had less then three fork fulls of greens. There was a $3.00 charge for an ice cube for my cocktail. Entrees were very very good, the accompaniments were very, very small portions. In summary, extremely overpriced especially considering the minuscule side portions and limited selections.

Katie and the staff were excellent. The service was exceptional from the housekeeping to restaurant. I have not been here in 14 years and the house looks the same. It is well kept and they are always maintaining the house. In February, they are renovating a cottage and I can’t wait to see it next year. The restaurant food was very fresh and very tasty. We don’t eat shell fish or meat, and there were plenty of food options for us.

I stayed at The Comstock House simply because it had a soaking tub. Honestly I disappointed for the price. The room smelled musty and the furnishings where old. Yes, the tub was big but that was the only good feature. They did not supply robes. They did not supply enough towels. Simple did not feel comfortable there at all. I would never go back.

I really wanted to give a better review than 3 stars & if I were rating staff friendliness only I would. However, a ‘4 Star” inn should not use pilled sheets & a mattress so old that it rocked like the SS Minnow every time we moved. Granted, we usually stay at The Chanler or Castle Hill INN in RI for 3 x’s the price, but for most people, a $400 a night room should have smooth sheets & a sink that drains properly. Sadly, won’t go back for these reasons. Location as a stopover point on the way to Newport was convenient, but our return stay at The Griswold Inn in Essex, with a firm King & silky sheets for 1/2 the price will be our choice in the future. Decor was lovely in 105, main building, but dark. Also, pack a step ladder to enter the bed.
