Auberge de Charme les Dunes d´or

Our stay here was arranged by our tour company. The setting in fabulous with spacious grounds, 2 pools, a really Moroccan feel! The room was large in Moroccan style. It was clean, beds comfortable, and the a/c worked great! The stay would have been perfect except that the dinner and breakfast were sub par. It was a crowded and slow buffet for both meals and they seemed to run out of many dishes. Flies were abundant in the dining area especially. Wifi was poor.

We sent 2 groups to this hotel in April and the rooms were uncleaned, the fridges didn't work and smelt the rooms out, the bathrooms were awful and hadn't been cleaned with calced taps and scum around the bases of the taps, the rooms were neglected with sand covering the flooring. To add insult to injury, I went there during the first week in May only to be met with the news the hotel has given our 2 rooms away that had previously had the bookings confirmed! We were very lucky to find another hotel and as it happened a superior hotel just 1km away. We will never send another group to this awful hotel and nor will I return to a destination we had once enjoyed.

Beautiful Kasbah type hotel right on the edge of the dunes. Designed in classic Berber fashion with outer wall and inner courtyards. 2 beautiful pools and lots of lounge chairs. Traditionally decorated lounging areas, dining room and bedrooms. Our bedroom was huge with 2 large queen beds and a seating area with small couch and table. Mattresses on the extra firm side. Lots of electrical outlets. AC worked well. Spacious bathroom with shower and good hot water and water pressure. Back door of bedroom opened onto our small terrace and the dunes started within metres. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style included in our tour. Lunch was by individual order and mostly tagine. No room safe. Wifi only in main lobby area and cuts in and out.  Staff were very welcoming.

This property could have been cool in its heyday, but it hasn't been kept up since. There was no one at the desk when we checked in or out. Our room was dirty and dusty and cold. The much-needed heater was so loud (the filter was probably full of sand and dust) that it kept us awake all night. The dining room was full of (I think 5?) cats (who jumped up on seats and sat under tables). Dinner was not good. There were no towels in the room--I needed to go fetch some for my husband's shower, only to learn upon my return there was no hot water. The toilet didn't flush--which was a problem since he had gastro issues due to the food. Apparently, the water issues were affecting a large part of the hotel as other guests were complaining. If you sat under a router near the front desk, there was a tad of wifi. Breakfast was nowhere to be found at 8:00am start, so we left with our guide at our 8:30am departure time. Other than that... Can't believe our tour company booked us here.

This hotel has been the best travel experience I could’ve dreamt of. From the enormous CLEAN rooms, the pools, the variety of traditional food options available. The staff were all so warm and welcoming. Getting to join in on a drum circle with some of the locals was a highlight and something I’ll remember forever. AND THE LOCATION CANNOT BE BEAT. You open your door and the dunes are right there. A 5 minute walk and your lost in the dunes. If you head to Morocco, make sure you book a stay here, I promise it will be your highlight too.
