Do keep an eye out for rip tides on any North Carolina beach. Sand! Our cleaning team works hard, but please know that the wind and wet toes bring sand everywhere. Rinse your feet with the hose, or use the outdoor shower! Kayak tours/rental and a surf shop are also within walking distance just at the entrance to our street.Biking & Walking Emerald Isle is bike-friendly with bike paths along the major roads and easy bike rental if you cannot bring your own. Bike or walk to the Emerald Plantation Shopping or Food Lion each morning to pick up a coffee or a treat. It's less than a mile away. You can walk easily to the pier via the beach (about a mile away). Emerald Isle Woods Park is also about a mile away and has a pretty view of the sound at sunset, a fishing pier, frisbee golf and walking trails. Piggly Wiggly (7 miles and 12 minutes away from the house): A convenient stop on the way in if you are coming in from Jacksonville. If you are coming in on a Saturday or Sunday it'll be much less crowded.Shopping: There is plenty of shopping on Emerald Isle and right at the Emerald Plantation Shopping Center with beach wear, book store, jewelry, movie theater...
