Prospector Hotel & Casino

The establishment was wonderful. Extremely friendly staff that made me and my kiddos feel like VIPs. Food was delicious. Had a pickup full of bikes, camping gear, archery equipment, etc. because we were on a Father’s week adventure. I asked if there was another entrance that I could bring it all through and the front desk assured me that everything would be safe. The next morning everything was exactly where it was supposed to be. Thanks for a wonderful stay and the Warchildren will definitely be back!
Magnuson Hotel Park Vue
3.2/5100 Reviews
If you're coming into Ely from the east you'll see from the signage that there are two Magnusons. Though if you see someone who looks like a dead ringer for The Guy from HBO's ”High Maintenance” you're probably at the wrong one (and breathing a sigh of relief on learning that, as it looks pretty run-down) The Park Vue stays true to hotel-court ”roots”, where maybe 50 years ago you'd roll into town and that's what everything was. But hey, it's COVID-ERA now and that's apparently forced a few changes, like a bit of diminishment in the breakfast offerings. Also, the ice machine was broken in a not-sure-it's-temporary sort of way, which is a ding. Room was OK though a bit tired in places, like with a carpet stain or two and the sink/shower appearing to have gone quite some time without an update. TV selection was pretty good, including enough channels to get MSNBC. And Korean baseball on ESPN, with the crowd cut-outs behind home plate and canned audience noises. What could be more Covidian than that? The lady at the counter was nice, though I had only the initial interaction. Location is a plus, as you can walk to the downtown ****** or two (or a bar), tie one on, head to the Big 4 for a happy-ending massage, drink some more and not have to get behind the wheel for any of it. Though all that's mostly a fantasy with the virus shutdowns hobbling it while I was there. You'd have to settle for Denny's. (Also, the lone 420 dispensary isn't in walking range). So overall I'd say it's 2-stars at best on standards and not the place you'd go if wanting something at or near the top of the market, but if you're looking for something budgety and can get a decent deal then it should be in the hunt.
Hotel Nevada & Gambling Hall
4.2/5101 Reviews
I've stayed at several ****** hotels over the years, including a few in small, remote Nevada towns. Typically, cheap Nevada ****** hotel rooms come with the bare minimum amenities. That was NOT the case at Hotel Nevada in Ely. All of the staff are very friendly, including the maintenance dude who chatted with me in the elevator. The room was a reasonable rate, and one of the cheapest rooms in town. From the outside, the building looks old - it is a historic building in a historic mining town. Yet, I saw active paint work occurring on the outside during my stay. And the inside rooms are fully renovated with modern furnishings. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The AC worked well, and was supported by a cool, modern looking ceiling fan. The bathroom was tight, but fully remodeled. (The size is probably due to the age of the building). The room itself was sufficiently spacious and there were two chairs for sitting. WiFi was also sufficiently fast, especially for the remote location. Free basic breakfast from Denny's and a free basic drink from the ****** bar were added bonuses to an already high value stay. Only two concerns, neither of which warranted dropping my rating. First, there was no microwave or fridge in my room. There was a fridge in the room across the hall, so perhaps you just have to ask. But I'm not sure why this can't come standard. And second, be sure to return your keys to the front desk at checkout, as there is a $5 fee for not doing so. (I've never seen that before... That's an unusual thing to charge a fee for). Otherwise, very excellent stay! I'll definitely return if I'm ever passing through Ely again.

Good in all aspects. Very good experience
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Ely

We had two Queen Deluxe rooms. However next to each other they wouldn’t give us the adjoining rooms with a connector door which would have reduced our back and forth knocking. Mattresses hard— but I travel a lot and every hotel must be buying from the same evil mattress company. Pool was great. Food not my favorite from a La Quinta (a powdered egg option, microwaved sausages, biscuits and gravy, assorted breads, packaged oatmeal’s and muffins, waffles. Yogurts, and whole fruit, and cereal boxes.). My biggest complaint if any was housekeepings process of checking rooms could be heard throughout the early morning. They would use a room card and click loudly on each door declaring housekeeping at 8am on a Sunday morning. A light knock would have been so much better to hear. And, also starting an hour later.
