The Royal Standard

We stayed here in Ely coming back from a family funeral up North. It was lovely. Very nice staff, check in was easy and friendly. Was really impressed by amenities in the room. Breakfast was gorgeous and nice that so much was included in the room price. If we'd have been a bit more "with it" we'd have found the bath mat in the cupboard in the bathroom, but the bath was still very nice as were the provided wash, shampoo and conditioner. Lovely location, lovely place and thank you so much to everyone for making this a very nice stay which really helped us at a sad time for us.

When we arrived and walked into the bar, I thought what have we done. We were greeted warmly and were shown to our room. Walking up the stairs, we were impressed with the decor and the thought that went into it. Our room was well and tastefully decorated, clean and cool with the AC turned on before we arrived. It was a hot day. There were plug sockets everywhere, so if you’re a gadget person like me, no problem to plug in. The bathroom was lovely and clean, with good quality soft large towels. The only comment I would make here, is that a shower mat would have been preferable, rather than getting out into the floor. I used the hand towel to step onto. Also a box of tissues would have been useful instead of using toilet paper to blow my nose. The breakfast was also good and well cooked, with our order taken at our table. The staff were friendly and always greeted us with a smile. All in all a good place to stay as we were here for a family wedding nearby. If we needed to be in Ely again, we would come back.

I had a nice stay here. The location is excellent and the room was fine. The included breakfast was from a menu and was nice. They're also open for walk-ins so they have the longest breakfast availability times of anywhere I've stayed (7:00- noon). I chose the vegetarian breakfast with poached eggs and brown bread: The tomatoes still on the vine were a nice touch. The pub is worthwhile, also

We popped in for a drink. They sell cask beer, the levelhead ale is delicious. We decided to stop for something to eat. The food was next level. I had veg option of butternutsquash and my partner had peppered pork / both were well presented, delivered hot and tasted delicious . We would both recommend this place 👍

We enjoyed a two night stay in this lovely hotel. Our room was very comfortable, spacious bathroom and lovely decor. The staff are friendly, accommodating and efficient. The hotel is well situated and a great place to stay in Ely. It is lovely and clean. Our room was quite warm so the air con was appreciated. The food is spot on. A big range of choice for breakfast, beautifully cooked. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the restaurant too. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Would love to give more stars as staff were lovely and food good but the room let it down, paint was peeling off ceiling in shower, the Roman blind was broken, the plug in the sink was minus its chain, the waste bin in bathroom had a broken lid and the quilt was very old and needed renewing, the desk top was very badly marked. All these could easily have been sorted without much effort but sadly it let the accommodation down, which, for the standard was a little overpriced.

Short visit to the cathedral city of Ely, staying at the Royal Standard. Firstly, the decor and rooms were very good. The staff were exceptional - friendly and efficient. Breakfast really tasty. Well worth a visit and definitely will stay again if in the area.

A warm friendly welcome, lovely room, the food was outstanding and Kieran was so kind to my daughter her baby and me. A huge thank you to all the staff for your kindness and friendly hospitality, we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

Really nice pub and hotel. Good location in the city (its more of a town size wise). My wife and i only stayed for a night but the drinks we had in the evening abd the breakfast in the morning was lovely. The en suite was a bit strange in room 5 but that is far from a deal breaker.
