Glenesk Hotel and Rita welcomed us with open hearts and made us feel wonderful when we didn't feel so. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, the breakfast is out of this world, coffee is by far the best we had during our whole trip, and the pool was a splendid opportunity to relax. We would like to recommend Glenesk Hotel and all of its staff to everyone who wants to have a superb experience in a lovely village.

Lovely quiet hotel, nothing to much bother for the staff. The Haddock and chips were the best we have tasted, although the 2 scopes of ice cream, while delicious was very expensive. We asked for extra pillows as we both like 2, not a problem. Although the hotel was not busy we were 2 floors up which was a bit of a problem for me as still recovering from an ankle injury.

Please Avoid !!! .Family wedding . Farcical running of the day by Ritu . Totally lacking any organisation. PRIVATE USE OF HOTEL ....... MMMM, which I may add was an extra charge . Went to go to Chandiler Room and find a table of strangers sitting having a meal !! When asked Ritu said it wasn't a problem , no not for her , but for the couple who had paid for exclusive use it was . Refund given to the , No !. Prices at bar again farcical, made up as she went along . One guest asked for water for the table , asked will I charge your room !! ,standard that water is on any table when having a meal . The list goes on and on . One Plus , the staff were amazing , they run the hotel and without them Ritu would not have any business . They went above and beyond their duties . Well done to them for having the clients interests at heart . Never Again would I go back

The Glenesk Hotel is the most wonderful place that we stayed at. Old world charm and peaceful, quiet location. Owner/Manager Ritu was an amazing host. Thank you. We wished that we could have stayed longer. Stag and particularly the chef were outstanding. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED…

We received a wonderfully warm welcome at the Glen Esk Hotel. We were passing through the village and decided to pop in for drinks. We had the pleasure of meeting Ritu, the owner who treated us like family. We were so impressed by her hospitality and warmth. She showed us around her beautiful hotel, which she has clearly put her heart and soul into. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and we really wanted to stay overnight! We decided to sit in the garden to have drinks - it was so peaceful and relaxing and we really didn’t want to leave.

ARRIVAL / RECEPTION This was a somewhat odd experience. When the lady arrived and asked us what time we would like to eat breakfast, we wanted to go for 0930. The response here was that the receptionist would strongly suggest that we arrive at 9 as she did not want the chef ’standing around doing nothing for an hour’. We went along with this and kind of laughed at it. But I don’t expect to be told at what time I have to arrive for breakfast within the available window. We were told that the latest would be 9am but we could arrive in the restaurant at that time, not necessarily having to order right away. Upon arriving to the room and looking through guest information, we saw the the breakfast time was until 0930. What the staff do - or don’t do - up until that time is not our concern, and we should be free to go to breakfast at whatever point of the available window that we choose. BEDROOM The shower was very slow to heat. Running the shower, and the hot tap on maximum flow into the bath yielded hot water in about 3 minutes. After the numerous things listed below, even opening the curtains in the morning wasn’t without issue, as the pole came out of the bracket in the centre of the window and fell down. The view out the window onto the veranda was awful (see picture). SNOOKER We had the billiard room opened for us and told that we would be allowed to use it until 10.30pm. We were apparently only granted until this time - rather than 10pm - because the occupants of room 7 had only just arrived and so likely wouldn’t be settling into sleep yet. The table was dusty, the pockets were torn and there was lots of debris in at the cushions. The floors were covered in large, dead flies - particularly in front of the window - and all the cue tips and rests were broken so as to be just about unusable. GYM The gym looked like an after thought with tiny dumbbells, home equipment and was far too hot to use. DINNER We dined at the restaurant and it was ok. My partner was a chef in his previous career and had his own assessment of how things went. His thoughts were: Although accommodation was kindly made for our request for bread, the amount of effort that it apparently took to pull a couple of sliced petit pains and some olive oil together - as suggested by the time it took to get there - perhaps makes it not worth doing. We had hoped for bread to see us through to our starters rather than with our starters. A special of haggis and black pudding bonbons was a nice addition to the menu, adequately replacing the missing pate. The bonbons themselves were also neat and tasted good. But these products are not expensive and he would have expected 5, rather than 3, on the plate for the price. The steak, a ribeye ordered rare, arrived with - as can happen with varying thickness - different degrees of cooking across the length of the piece of meat. But the least of this cooking degree was somewhere between medium and medium well. The rest was well do

I was gifted an afternoon tea from my best friend in March. Just getting around to reviewing the afternoon. The decor in the front room of the hotel was lovely. However, we were the only two people to be seen in the hotel. Whilst this may be seen as blissful and private, it was a tad odd. The selection of choices on the afternoon tea plate was unexciting but adequate, however, the strange thing was being left in a beautiful room with no staff coming in to check that we were ‘fine’. When we requested a wee top up of the tea / coffee, we had to root about the hotel to find a staff member. Unfortunately, the same cups were used which had a small amount of colder tea in them rather than replacing one of the cups. When we departed, there was no one around at all again to say goodbye to. We simply departed. Odd, odd, odd. I know there is a fine balance between staff constantly badgering a person to see if all is well but this was the other extreme. It was like a ghost town. The beautiful bar was completely empty which was a shame as it looked a lovely place to have a wee drink of whisky and chill. However, I noticed the whisky was very expensive in the bar and in keeping with high end London inner city prices rather than a small Scottish village hotel. Excessively expensive for every day local malts etc What a shame as this could be a busy hotel if prices in the bar were reasonable and in keeping with local prices. The hotel and bar used to be always very busy and it is sad to see it beautifully decorated with no one about.
