Cod Cove Inn, BW Signature Collection

Good and not so good stuff;but it served its purpose. The good is the accommodating staff who honored my request for a first floor room and the staff's assistance (when they were there - more later). The rooms were clean (you need to request maid service) and the grounds were well kept and spotless. they even had a nice garden on the side by the pool. We did not use the pool as it was too cold. The rooms were clean though a bit dated. There was a sleeper/couch that looked like it was left over from the 60's which was missing a backrest as evidenced by being unable to sit all the way back and we kept leaning backwards. Despite a good sleep the mattress was soft and lumpy (we prefer a firm mattress). The room had a little porch to sit outside and a nice view. The prices were reasonable considering what the costs are in the Harbor. The breakfast was bare bones and not a great selection. I suggest you buy something and bring it back to your room or eat at a local cafe in the Harbor or Wiscasset. Also, there was an odd sign asking you to only have your breakfast in the breakfast room and not take anything back to your room. Weird! The coffee was good and hot (New England brew, I believe). In the room there was adequate lighting and charging ports. The floors were clean and plenty of space for luggage (we had a king room). The TV was Direct TV and gave many channels. The shower/bath was old surround/fiberglass (with tub) and could use a sprucing up as it is yellowing. The shower was small (and we are not big people). It was evident the towel rack had fallen off or was removed as there were four screw holes over the toilet and they didn't drywall over them or paint- how hard is it to go buy a ten dollar picture or mirror and place it over the holes till it was repaired! We arrived late due to flights and stopping for dinner (we knew there would be nothing open by the time we got to the area. On the way we received a text from the Inn indicating the procedure to follow if we arrived after 8PM. Huh! It was easy to follow with keys, check in, etc but this is something new to us. There is no on-site staff after 8PM so you are on your own unless something drastic happens and you have to call their contact number. Why is this - unable to get staff or they see no need to staff-I don't know. I do know that some of the BnB's in town are like this with no late night staff but this is part of the BW Signature collection and I am surprised corporate allows this or are just lending their name to the Inn. Overall, it was adequate and very average. Most important to us is that it was clean, but don't expect it to be anything more than serviceable.

This was our third time staying at the Cod Cove Inn, the first since it became part of the Best Western family. If you have stayed here before, be prepared it is a little different. On the positive side, the location in mid-Coast Maine is still so convenient, and surprisingly removed for being along the main road. Parking is easy, near the rooms. The staff we encountered were pleasant, it was quiet, the bed was extremely comfortable, and everything was clean (no carpet!). On the downside, things are starting to require a bit more maintenance, especially the loose towel rack in the bathroom. The biggest disappointment was the disappearance of the breakfast muffins. This may seem silly, but they were that good, and the new offerings did not tempt (we went out for pastries and coffee). Still a good option in the area, just not the same.

We have been staying at the Cod Cove for many years about twice a year. Back in the day there were delicious homemade muffins every morning; now there’s dry cereal and toast and a mean note saying not to take any food or drinks out of the breakfast area (despite only disposable coffee cups and paper plates), which is ridiculous that you can’t toast a bagel and bring it to your room. The pool is wonderful, but is it heated, as advertised? I really don’t think so. Also there are no longer towels for the pool. Lastly, the gardens are still beautiful but I don’t see that lasting long as no one is weeding them regularly. That said, the new management is very friendly, no problem with early check-in, it’s one of a diminishing number of places that make up your room every day, and it’s a great location. We just miss Ted and his muffins.

The room was quite comfortable, but the problem was the floor above us. It was a two story motel and at 3: 30 a.m. and again at 5 a.m., someone was showering on the second floor but the noise was thunderous. We couldn't stay another night without sleep, but the hotel would not provide any adjustment. We didn't expect a refund of the second night, but thought that some ac would some adjustment would have been appropriate. So great place to stay unless you want to sleep!

Some things need attention! Room ok. Property grounds very nice. Bathroom door in room 101 would not close. Needs to be shaved or adjusted. Mattress only fair. Screen door to balcony did not open/close easily.

Very convenient to everything from Wiscasset to Damariscotta and down to Boothbay and South Bristol. The hotel was super clean, with large rooms with balconies, and the staff (Amanda and Nick) were very helpful with every request. Loved the breakfast in the morning, standard fair, but fresh and plenty of it. Perfect base of operation when exploring the area. Would stay there again.
