Walked in to the Kings Arms, Eccleshall, today at 2 pm, on the off chance they had a table free for Sunday Lunch, fortunately they did and were serving carvery. So glad we did, as it was one of the best carvery's we have ever fallen upon, welcomed by Brianny, the new owner, we were offered a table by the wood burning stove and given our menus. Opted for the carvery and after sampling our wines headed off to the carvery counter. When asked for our choice of meat, we thought we would chance our luck and asked for a slice of all three (beef, lamb and gammon), only to be told 'of course you can', not used to that normally restricted to two! Melt in the mouth meats, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside roast potatoes, honey glazed carrots, red & green cabbage, cauliflower cheese and beautifully home cooked and unbelievably tasty home baked Yorkshire puddings, honestly one of the best Sunday roast we have ever eaten. Even had a playful argument with the chef over his term of gravy versus sauce, when you work on it for a full five days, starting by boiling beef bones to make the stock, it's a sauce in my book not a gravy, either which way it was delicious and topped off a truly marvellous meal. Cannot recommend this Sunday lunch any higher, if you ever find yourself in Eccleshall on a Sunday it's a must do!
