North Star Motel

I found this on TA. The location was not great, it was at the far north side of Kimberley and almost out of town. I was welcomed by first name by the innkeeper, Trish. She was pleasant, efficient and helpful athough she did offer a senior or CAA rate. Her husband was also great with suggesting a good place for dinner (see my review for Sully's or Sullivan's). The room was very nice with antique furniture. It was quite comfortable overall and the bed was great! I slept well and there was no noise from other guests. The stay was not perfect: 1. The ceiling light was wired along the ceiling and wall with cheap two conductor zip cable that was used YEARS ago for smaller two prong appliances. The end of the wire had a two prong plug that was connected to a duplex on the wall. I don't know of ANY municipality that would issue a work and/or electrical permit for this kind of shoddy and UNSAFE wiring. What's worse is that it's in a commercial establishment with guests staying. There is no excuse compromising the safety of guests. 2. While there was a power bar with 4 USB ports on the table between the beds, the power bar did not support USB-C which is now the standard for mobile phone power cables. 3. There was no USB power bar near the table where I placed my computer and needed to use the mobile simultaneously. I used my own USB C cable. There should have been a proper power bar near the table. 4. The room heating unit never shut off. I tried to turn it off to no avail. Even with the A/C running, it was quite warm. Why doesn't this place have those units that most motels have where it is heating and air conditioning all in one unit and installed in the wall. As an aside I'm glad i don't pay their electric bills given that both the A/C and heat operate at the same time. I wonder of this happens in other rooms? Overall a nice and quiet place. I'd stay here again IF I were to return to Kimberley. I'm not sure I will.

Absolutely love this motel! The owners are amazing - super friendly. We love everything about this place. The rooms are super clean. Can't say enough and look forward to our yearly trip to Kimberley just to stay at this home away from home motel. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Two couples retreat to visit Kimberley town BC. We all shared a room together and were very comfortable for our stay. We were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and helpful guidance about our options by the motel owner on arrival. As well as the cute free ranging chickens. Otherwise we were given our space and privacy. Once we got into our room we all agreed just how nice the attention to detail that was taken in really making the rooms feel authentic and cozy was. Daily changing banana bread options of exceptional quality baked in house at no additional cost. A well stocked coffee bar with a quiet bar fridge that didn't interfere with our sleep. Ample towels. Very clean bedding. A really sweet hot tub. Some of the tastiest tap water I've ever drunk. Close enough to walk town if you feel like having that extra drink. I have nothing negative I can say, however if you want to be right in town this not for you. It is a 20-30min walk. Otherwise the price was great and the overall experience was exceptional. Highly recommended!

The North Star is unpretentious, clean and a very good choice. We were greeted with a loaf of home-baked sweet bread and a smile. Comfy bed. Everything that we wanted. I would definitely stay here again.
