Stayed for 2 nights as on an offshore course, so just needed somewhere reasonable. Think the 2 nights totalled £70, so my expectations weren’t high. The actual room was sad, it needed a good lick of paint and a new carpet. It had a smell that reminded me on an old caravan I’d sit in with pals when I was a kid, if you know that smell you’ll know what I mean. The sink in the room was old and the chrome plug fitting whizzed around like a puck on an air hockey table when water was on full pelt. I knew that I’d be sharing a toilet and shower, but the standard wasn’t good. I went to Pontins years back, the toilet I had there was damp and had absolutely no investment to give a nice experience, this was exactly the same. I’ve never been back to Pontins. I wasn’t required to get up until 7.15am, however I was awake from 5 both mornings. No soundproofing whatsoever. The breakfast was basic, just toast and cereal which was fine. On my second morning there was no milk. I rang the bell to get someone’s attention, but the woman that had been there the previous day had gone on holiday to somewhere nice and sunny apparently, so there wasn’t anyone to speak to, which I found rather odd. So instead of having my Special K, I just had toast. I don’t usually do toast. Overall, what I’ve learned is that sometimes cheaper isn’t always better.
