The Lodge Duxford

We stayed for one night as we were headed for Stansted airport the following morning. The location is good as it’s close to the motorway and approximately half an hour from the airport. The room we had was called the Cosy Room, very ironic. This room was the only one in the basement, next to a public toilet and cafe room accessed by the garden. The hotel has floorboards throughout and we could hear all the noise from the reception, restaurant and bar upstairs. When the guests had gone we heard chairs being dragged across the floor and windows and doors banging., presumably the staff tidying up. This stopped about midnight. Then we could hear toilets flushing and water in the pipes above us. We couldn’t even drown the noise out with the tv as it didn’t work. Two members of staff tried and failed to tune it in. No signal received in the basement. The bed was tiny and the room was cramped. No sockets by the mirror meant that you had to bend at a strange angle when trying to dry your hair! Breakfast choice was limited. I ordered the pancakes and was told they were the ‘last ones’ which meant they weren’t freshly made. Service was slow as there was only one waitress serving all of the guests. When our food arrived it was luke warm as it must have been sat in the kitchen for ages. We told the receptionist of our experience when we checked out and she apologised but I’m sure that they have had similar comments from people staying in the basement room. It isn’t fit for purpose and shouldn’t be used as a bedroom.

Meal in main restaurant. Very inexperienced staff. Service slow. Despite three waiting staff, a receptionist and less than six tables in use. Booked to cook our own steaks on the hot stone. Unfortunately despite me asking about medium rare, my steak was served already cooked beyond that point. I took it straight off the hot stone. It took far too long for all four meals to arrive. By that time my steak was stone cold, pun deliberately intended, plus over cooked. Very disappointing. I enjoy supporting local independents. Wouldn’t bother with this one.

Family meal to celebrate birthday. Food was excellent, decor & ambience fab. Good choice on the menu. The salmon was delicious. Rest of the party had steak & lamb which also looked amazing Lovely evening, Sophie, our waitress was fab, friendly & attentive.

Great steak and a lovely environment. Had great service from poppy and sophie 10/10. Topped it off by bringing a small birthday cake plate for dad as it was his birthday Highly recommend, will return ………………………………………………………………………………………..

Enjoyable stay, friendly staff Service was good, food was delicious. The room we stayed in needs a bit of upgrading. Rooms not as luxurious as it looks like on the photos.

Had a meeting on site and it is in excellent location, food was fab and Kaleigh was super helpful and attended to our needs perfectly. I strongly recommend!! Make sure you try the steak!!! Decor was well done and one of the nicest seen in the area. Well done on creating something great!
