Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani

The service was really great. Their staff is helpful. However the rooms are old. My aircon was not working and the stopper in the bath tub didn’t work. I was quite disappointed by that.

The place was absolutely amazing!!!the stay was great, room was great just a bit dusty but it was a pleasant stay. Will be coming back. Breakfast was also excellent

It’s a very bad experience. I can hear very loud music noise inside the room. Their attitude is bad and they don’t want to solve problems for guests. Their service is really really slow. I don’t recommend this hotel at all, I’m very regretted that I chose Southern Sun

Sadly the sea view and prime beachfront location was badly let down by a catalogue of poor service . Whilst issues were resolved, they should not have existed in the first place . On arrival in our room , the safe was faulty , the TV didn’t not work . Eventually after several complaints to the reception and duty manager , the safe was replaced and a new TV brought in . Every day , the cleaner failed to leave clean towels , which left us without one evening when we going out to meet friends . The breakfasts were very good , with a wide choice available , and the hotel was clean , but the hotel needs to tighten up and check all its TV’s and safes . The bathroom door appears to have been a quick repair job , possibly because of some incident . Most annoying was the room key cards , which failed to open the door , reception blamed this on cards being affected by our mobile phones . I kept the card in a signal blocking pocket , so I don’t buy this .

Adequate stay. Much prefer staying in the Maharani Tower. The property could do well to have a modern facelift. Breakfast at Vigour & Verve was good and the staff across the board very friendly and welcoming. The quality and presentation of the buffet dinner has regressed but overall, not a bad location for a couple of days.

I have stayed at this twin hotel more than once and I always return with peace of mind. The ocean view is priceless, the rooms are spacious and clean and whether you breakfast at the Maharani, buffet at the Elangeni or have a quiet night in with room service, the food is always a winner! Parking arrangements are seamless and this hotel forms the perfect basis to operate from when in Durban for business. See you guys next time!

This was the worst hotel experience I had. I has money stolen in the property by the housekeeper, and hotel management helped cover up, and failed to take proper action. I had money stolen, but could not recover, due to mishandle by the hotel management, who pretended to take action, later at night, before I was leaving. And until this day, I am waiting on a proper answer from the Hotel and nothing, not even a conclusion from the investigation.

What happened to the Maharani hotel....needs to be downgraded. reception was not well manned. Basics not provided in the bathrooms...3 hours later had to go down 16 floors to reception as the phone in the rooms did not work....no wifi the whole week. Broken latch on door was never attended to after requesting for it to be fixed. No water provided on the rooms...we don't drink Durban water out of the taps..Entire hotel need a facelift especially the rooms and built in cupboards. For what is supposedly a highy rated hotel it serves a very basic breakfast....I've had better at a City lodge and Holiday Inn Express
