Booked because it advertised a restaurant on site. Arrived, it was closed. No one available to check us in or out. Lied about sending an email informing of closure. No alternatives given. No dinner or breakfast available locally. No reimbursement for inconvenience. Still advertising restaurant on website and in the bedrooms

My husband and I were meeting Friends at the First and Last Restaurant . Friendly welcome the meals were slow in coming out but I'm glad we had a lot off catching up to do . When the meals came they were hot and big portions Our table was in the conservatory we had a view of the village and the sea. I would recommend being a local it's great to have somewhere nice to go to . Have a look !

Handy place to stop for lunch driving from Scotland to England on the A1. All the meals we had were excellent, really delicious, i especially enjoyed my hand made pizza. The kids loved their food too. A little gem of a place, recommend to anyone who wants a nice lunch (or dinner)

This is a decent pub on the A1 just over the Scottish border. They do food and accommodation which I can't comment on but as a pub it is decent. It's small and is more towards food service rather than as a place to drop into for a drink but it was clean, friendly service at an ok price. My overall impression was that this is a slightly faded place in need of a makeover, there's nothing wrong with it per se but I wouldn't rush back neither.

If it hadn't been for the wonderful waiter/barman/kitchen hand, we would have classed our visit as a total write off. We'd booked a table in advance but on arrival they were completely unprepared and had to start moving tables to accommodate us. We then placed our drinks order only to be told that 2 of them weren't available even though they were pretty standard requests. The menu looked enticing - a good selection at reasonable prices but more disappointment awaited. Four of us ordered meals that should have come with rice whereupon we were told they only had one portion available and the rest would have to have chips or re-choose. We then waited over half an hour to be served despite the place not being busy at all and when the meals came they weren't even as described on the menu. The teriyaki chicken should have come with vegetable spring rolls (which were missing) and the 'asian salad' turned out to be just chopped tomato and red onion. The chicken itself was so salty we all struggled to eat it but because we'd waited as long to be served, we just made the best of it. On the plus side, the chips were deemed excellent and the chicken bites delicious. The place was so short-staffed we had to go and ask for desserts even though the choice of those was very limited. However those of us that did indulge enjoyed them (again good sized portions) but the coffee is best avoided as it was really bitter. Overall a really disappointing experience only salvaged by the charm and courtesy of our waiter. Best avoided until they sort out their very obvious staffing and supply issues.

Whilst moving my friend to Scotland we stopped here on the way up. It was actually a nice, peaceful stay and we think we were the only ones staying. It was dead in the bar but the staff were attentive and showed us our rooms which were spacious, clean, and had all the regulars including a kettle, hairdryer,, a single and double bed, shower gel and soap, a couple of decent biscuits, and a toaster in the wardrobe (weird). The bathroom was nice although we laughed about the shower afterwards. Both of us being big guys we struggled to fit inside them and get back out as the sliding doors allow you (just) to step out diagonally. However, it was a really nice stay on the breezy coast and would recommend. Hopefully next time I'll get time and energy to visit the bar for a drink or some food.

Fabulous lunch, very friendly welcome, lovely lounge. Highly recommended. Pea and brocoli soup was ace and chips with cheese very tasty. We were made to feel really welcome by the owner and there seemed to be lots of interesting entertainment in the evening. Great place to visit.

4 of us went for evening meal, and it was brilliant. They have started doing a veggie burger, and it's one of the best ever, and I've had hundreds over the years. Really juicy and tasty, in a fresh bun ( not sickly sweet brioche :-) , 2 of our friends had fish and chips, which they really enjoyed, and the other had the lasagne. Brilliant chips, generous portions, good price, and lovely staff. We all had a great time and will be back soon. Thank you :-)

Up in Berwick for my dads birthday and pondered where to take him for a meal. The First and the Last came up in conversation so I though why not and let’s just say we weren’t disappointed. Initially I thought £27 was expensive for a 10oz sirloin, in hindsight how wrong I was. The rest of the menu was what I’d call competitivly priced. We both went for the sirloin steak and it was excellently cooked medium/rare, no blood, complimented with chips, onion rings, mushroom and a peppercorn sauce. All washed down with Belhaven best albeit a decent selection of other drinks were available. All in all a great evening, friendly staff and drinkers stood at the bar. I will be back to the First and the Last next time I visit.
