Holiday Inn & Suites Duluth-Downtown

Property is located .5 miles from Canal Park but we quickly realized you simply cannot leave the hotel on foot, especially with kids. There is a large transient population on all of the surrounding blocks with drug use & other activities out in the open. Parking is provided in a ramp that requires a key to enter via car, but the stairwell doesn’t require a key. The elevator in the ramp wasn’t working at times forcing us to use the stairwell which was literally crumbling (much like the majority of the other abandoned buildings in the vicinity). Rooms and hallways are dingy and dark, especially the initial room we were provided which was in the 8th floor pool atrium area. The only “window” in the room overlooked the pool area, meaning there was no window to the outside. Everything in the room including the bedding was damp due to the proximity to the pool. The wall A/C unit was loud and “popped” loudly each time the compressor started. We were moved to another room which thankfully had an exterior window, but also overlooked a partially demolished building. It also gave us a front row seat for a large disturbance at 2AM among the aforementioned transient population. The morning front desk staff was friendly and helpful in getting us into a different room, but the evening staff was the opposite. We ultimately left the property after 2 days, forfeiting our final 2 nights and eating the cost. When I checked out of the room both employees at the front desk just shrugged there shoulders and that was that. I was happy to pay the 2 nights’ unused fees to never set foot in that hotel again.

Me and my friend had excellent stay there with room on the 2nd floor right above the pool on the first floor. The room had a nice view and liked photos in the room of the local landmarks around the Duluth area!!!!! I really liked the vintage full flush American Standard Toilet that was in the room too!!!!!!! I also liked the pool and hot tub on the 7th floor too!!!!! I can’t wait to come up again and stay there again sometime soon!!!!!!!
